Governor?

In my 1983 sedan I could go faster in fourth than fifth. In this one, I have to run almost as far as I can in fourth before moving to fifth. Don't (and won't) go that fast anymore, though.

I've done over 135 in the turbo, and over 120 in the GT. The turbo really eats it up....I must say....I'm really curious to drive a legacy turbo in good shape, cause besides mine (with ej20g and IC and stuff) I've only driven one other and it was junk and not running well, slipping clutch...
There is a slight chance I'm running a vf14...but probably I'm running one of the smaller VF's like the US one. Don't really know though.

Curious about how much I'd miss the .2l displacment or if the extra cams help make up for it.

i read in the car review articles at this site, and it says that the us spec governor is 130mph.

Uuuh guys, I'm pretty sure that we are speed limited by our tires long before the computer. I'm sure some of you have Z-donuts, but anybody with an R,S,T rated tire should not be testing above 120. But if you like playing the underinflated-overloaded-Firestone laden SUV-land speed record game, join in. That being said, I've seen 120 with a not very aero-bike rack.

I'd bet the majority of us have H rated tires.

evolutionmovement/G-reg: Why would anyone be using tires with such low ratings? V rated tires are common.

I guess many of you dont care about yourself or the vehicle. Tires are THE most important part of the vehicle, no matter the usage. It is the only part of the car in contact with the road. Tires effect all behavior of the vehicle more than the suspension brakes or stearing. Even accelleration is effected by the tires, though less since many of us are AWD.

Ill give you an example, I purcahsed a 91 LSI for around 700 yet I spent 650 total on tires and wheels. Does it make sense to spend an equal amount on the vehicle as the tires? YES. I want to be able to avoid accidents and drive in the rain. Thats why I got top of the line all seasons, which have BETTER traction than the majority of summer tires.

If you cant tell, I feel very strong about this topic

H rated are good for 130 or 135. I can't imagine a need for a higher rating with an almost 240,000 mile N/A wagon. Especially when the tires are $46/ea. And this from the guy who was telling people a while ago not to go so fast.

Its not for the speed rating, its becuase the higher quality tires usually come with a higher rating.

Besides, if your still using 14 inch wheels you can get 195 65 14 Dunlop Sport A2 (one of the best tires for the money with great traction in all conditions) for around 330$ . Only 5mm smaller diameter but wider and slightly shorter sidewall, plus a little better mechanical advantage. 70mph=69.37

Still dont understand why you'd stick with 14s. The performance improvement with 16 inch wheels is HUGE, 200 for WRX wheels plus 430. Can you say bang for the buck?!

I have 15's with the turbo's size tires. Iplan on moving to 16s to fit a brake upgrade, but am not looking forward to it. I like the ride the any it is and don't want it to get worse and I like the taller profile as its easy and predictable to drift. Also stands out even less.

I will not dispute that a higher speed rating is better overall - the ability for it to withstand heat alone will make it more helpful for sustaining cornering abuse. I just think that something like a decent Yokohama H-rated touring tire is cheap, a huge improvement over stock, and most likely to be had by more members of this board than more high performance specific expensive tires. A lot of us are onn short budgets and live in climates unfriendly to strict performance tires. I think that's what we're arguing about, but I forget now. Oh, who cares? It's 2:30 in the morning here.
