Bad-ass rally! I'm so hooked, I think I'm going to buy a second 4WD sedan, gut it out, and rally it!!!

The Eclipse was driven by my friend with the 91 turbo that I always talk about, and his brother co-drove my car. Yes, he's the one who won the U4 class and got the second best times of the day!!!  Yep, beat every last WRX, STi, RS, etc. etc.

I unfortunately didn't do as good, being my first rallyX :(, but here's a pic of me driving:

Here's a pic of my co-driver driving, looks so much cleaner...

EDIT: New pics were put up a few days ago, here's some more:

I'm on the left, co-driver is on the right, holding his second-place trophy in his hands :D

Car escaped unscathed, just washed the wheels and brakes off and the car didn't even know what happened!

Lots of fun, and there will definitely be more events at that spot!

Nice, did you drive with both feet?

When I did my last autocross I found the best method was to basically keep the throttle wide open and control speed with the brakes, leaving the shift selector in 1. If the RPM reached 6500 it would shift to second, but as soon as you slowed down slightly it would go back into first. I know it was killing the fluid and eating up gas but it made a big difference.

Brakes? I wasn't using the brakes! I was starting in 1st and upshifting to 2nd....might have to try leaving it in 1st next time....

Need skid plate up front....I kept getting slowed but the deep ruts, just need a skidplate to "surf" on top of the ruts! :D

nice pics! all of the local rally-x's in my area have been cancelled in the last 2 years :(

as i remember with the auto tranny's the torque split is locked at 50/50 only in 1st and reverse, it's variable in all other gears, so keep that in mind when trying to power out of corners

"I wasn't using the brakes"

You will be alot faster if you do, especially with turbo because you can stay fully spooled even in the lower side of first gear.

Nice shots guys!

I live about 90 minutes from Rally Park Northeast and really want to run in at least a few rally X's this year. I don't want to jack my CES TBE though, that's my only real fear, damage wise.

I wish I could afford another SS just for rallying and autoX.

Matt,

If you're worried about damage, then you're right about RPNE. But you should at least check out one of the more gentle places. You should be fine assuming your car is not lowered, assuming your shocks aren't completely worn out, and assuming you don't do something silly. Hell my exhaust was still fine and I DID do something silly with totally blown shocks (see pictures above!)

Yeah, it's rough enough that I felt like I had to slow down on the straightaways to avoid bottoming out (which is lame). They have some courses that are fine, and some courses that are insane.

It's not so bad! Those pictures are kind of "unusual cases" Oakland Acres and Beaverun (see links above) are nice smooth dirt roads that have been graded flat. In fact, Beaverun sometimes runs races on a nicely-groomed gravel parking lot (aka "vehicle dynamics area"). First rallycross at Oakland Acres is this Sunday! Getting riled up!
