WRX STi Suspension Compatability?

Post by Noodles »

I've been thinking maybe, and its extremely remote, but if i was to get a '97 WRX STi front cut (very eccy) it could almost be worth it if all the suspension and brake components were modifiably compatible. you would end up with STi engine, turbo, cooler, computer, springs, struts, brakes, steering :? , nardi wheel :D (on the 1 that i'm lookin at anyway. hahah trivial, but its a damn nice tiller.) etc...
just wondering because my mate just took the whole front suspension setup off a 31 skyline and with minimal mods fit it to his 1200 datsun. so he ended up with R31 suspension and brakes. he just exchanged strut tops so he didnt have to modify the actual car.
what do ya reckon?

the money you save going with the legacy can buy you better suspension/brake parts and lots of mods to beef up that engine to stronger than the sti

I voted for the Legacy too on the assumption that it's an EJ20G block. At that price you'll have some money to play with.

yeh i sorta thought that. but if i were to get the STi cut i'd be spending $1200 over the legacy and not gettin a box. thats a fair crack of the whip once its in the car. but 1200 squid still isnt goin to cover suspension let alone engine mods.
remember... these are lowly australian squid :D
p.s found another STi cut but with manual box for $4k

ah, must have been a typo then. In the choices it says the sti one is $38000 which is why I said that. Either way I'd still take the legacy stronger engine.

i got all of the listings of three different webpages (cept the STi frontcut, $4k with box) so i dunno what year... it'd have to be pretty ruff for $2600 and only 50-thou on the clock.

I thought the RAs were the last with the closed-decks.

pardon my ignorance/stupidity  , but what is open/closed deck? does that refer to the bottom of the block being directly open to the crank :? ??? (no idea on that)
over here price is pretty much an indication of quality (as it is everywhere i spose) so as i said for AUD$2600 with only 50,000kms its gotta be fairly rough.
whats open/closed deck do when its at home? its obviously pretty drastic. i'm not in the market for anuther 4-5 months (still organising funds etc) so i'm just sorta researching at the moment.

gotcha  what difference does this make and how can you tell (visually) whether a certain engine is open/closed deck short of taking off the head?
