The engine was designed by SOA for their rally line in the early 80's. There are pictures of a EA81 RX Coupe that has that engine, and a few others with dual carb setup's that roamed around in Japan and overseas. I also have a pic somewhere of the Y pipe that went to that engine. Wierd seeing dual exhaust ports and 2 pipes comming from the headers.

With two 4 foot pipes and two people can easily get it off without dammage to the nut. Equal rotational pressure far greater than any impact gun.

Any of you that think an impact gun will always remove the nut have been lucky so far. You wont like it when you plan to do the job and its stuck. Then you waste half the day trying to find another tool.
Legacy777: Yes. They are a great tool to have because they fit in places a flex handle or breaker bar wont sometimes.
Plus they let you put equal force on the nut.

I'll have to pick one of those guys up....and yes i'm well aware an impact gun doesn't always work......

Well, i was SUPPOSED to have the car back by now. Just got back from the shop and it'll take alittle longer than expected. I guess the flywheel was cracked, he said he had to have the cracks welded shut and have the flywheel resurfaced. That should add another digit or 2 to the price of this job.
Anyhow, rear bushings are completly shot. I'll need to replace the suspension bushings for the rear. I suppose I could post this in the suspension spot, but since im here... does anyone know if I can get a complete bushing kit for the front and rear?

Air tools, impact guns, who needs em?
Not only did I remove my Legacy's transmission with whatever wrench and socket I found laying around on my garage floor and my 3 ton floor jack, and remove a control arm nut rusted to hell from my XT with the same tools, but I was helping with a project last summer of trying to get the engine and transmission out of a `47 Jeep truck that had not ran in 13 years. If I wasn't completely stumped on why the input shaft would not slide out of the clutch, I would have removed the entire drivetrain with nothing but socket wrenches and a cherry-picker. Good thing I didn't have the time to continue with it...
Air tools only increase speed and make things a bit easier. To me, they're not worth the price.

My ex-GF bought me a compressor and tools for my birthday, so i guess i could use them. and what better to use them on, but old... rusty... dirty suspension bolts.
$1,088 total.... *Sigh* but hey!! At least it has a new clutch and doesnt spool up to 5k before it moves. Now to just get that rear end fixed before I kill myself.

No no no... the clutch install cost $1088. The compressor i have is a 11gal tank and 4.5hp motor. Will put out 110psi, but unsure of the CFM.
RallyTekTech.... if you were in sac, i'da prolly taken you up on that. Expecially since i had a clutch kit lined up for $250 shipped to my door. But oh well, the bonus I got from work covered the car & the cost of the clutch, and im still under $2500 total with enough to spare to purchase a complete set of bushings for the suspension.

Not until the rear bushings are fixed. When i gun it, the rear drivers wheel will pivot and throw the rear of the car into a fishtail. Very scary at high speeds.
I think for now it will remain stock for a while. I will add a boost gauge and replace the brakes after the bushings. Then get rims and worry about an I/C before I tamper with its boost.

As an alternative to popping the balljoint, you can just remove the camber bolt (just be sure to mark it's location before you do) and then break loose the lower bolt on the strut, this wil allow the spindle to swing out which gives you just enough motion to get the half-shaft off. The lower strut bolts are all 19mm or 3/4"
