You've got up to 7K to spend, and your considering a CRX?

Miatas are really cool, kinda gay, but fun to drive.

For autoX, Mr2's are pretty dope as well, and I bet you could find a real nice turbod example for that much money.

What about an early 90's sentra se-r? or 240sx? even a z31 84-89 300zx sounds appetizing.

What about a different Honda? Maybe a Prelude 2.0Si? Its bigger than the CRX so maybe it would pass the death trap test.

What about classics? I don't know about as north as you are, but in California I've seen BMW 2002s and Datsun Zs cheap. Maybe a 510? Almost any kind of performance possibility with them. I think the 510s will become semi-collectible soon too.

What about an XT? Lower CG, smaller, lighter.

still want a slightly attractive car. dont want a honda unless it's a crx. everything's stolen too often, only reason i'd go crx is the go-kart factor.

thought about the xt... it's just too damn ugly

the xt is actually a very pleasing looking car from the outside, I cant say I care much for the steering wheel and dash setup though. My last suggestion for ya is goin to be an rx7 or mx6 but sounds like you are kinda picky. Just go with a touring wagon and get the suspension/tires setup how you like it, if you work with it you can have it handling like a go-kart, sure it wont be as small as a crx or soemthing but it will feel like it.

Some of these might be considered too small...

Mazda 323GTX

TVR 2500M

Corolla RE86

early C4 Corvette

I think the EJ22 would be a better engine to turbocharge than the EJ25, if for no reason other than the head gasket issues.

I say if you want something turbo, go with the EJ22T wagon. Then you already have an engine ready to handle some serious boost, and don't have to worry about tuning an N/A engine (internals, fuel, manifolds etc.) to compensate for the turbo. Might be cheaper for money/power ratio. Just my 2 cents 8)

How about a DSM? You get your AWD turbo there, and they're not bad looking cars IMHO.
