Yeah, I kinda figured that, but the scarcity of an affordable Legacy in my area led me to a DSM, and I'm enjoying it so far (knock on wood). This BBS however, keeps me coming back for more
Getting back to the original topic, there are always the Celica Alltracs/ GT-4s. I heard you lucky guys in the states get them, along with the GVR4s and the EVOs.
Doesnt everyone remember she has a Legacy? No need for another subaru.
LaureltheQueen: I seriously doubt your car is going to blow up all of a sudden. In fact Ive been driving my beater with:
a blown head gasket (coolant erupts from the overflow when driven hard)
Leaking a quart of oil every 800 miles
Smoking at stop lights
Original spark plug wires
Nearly zero differential fluid
Rotors that look like a cheese grater
And much more for 20k miles, and I drive the thing hard (95+ every single day, many full throttle runs with 8-900 or so pounds of passengers).
Even if the legacy did somehow self destruct what stops you from dropping a used engine would be cheap. You dont even need to replace any parts on it (except maybe valve cover gaskets).
if i do a swap into my car, it'll be a ej22t, and what it would cost me to get that engine in, as well as get the car up to par on the outside would be just over the cost of a newer turbo legacy. I dont want a hoopty, you have to keep in mind that this is my only car. It has 212k miles on it, and it shows, every panel on my body has at least a ding, most have scratches or rather large dents. Every time i go over a bump it squeaks because my chassis isnt rigid enough, my engine randomly dies at stop signs and shifting from reverse to drive. I want a decent car that is PRACTICAL and fun to drive. A miata, although it has oodles of trunk space is not practical
Why would you refuse to swap another non-turbo engine in better shape into your car? You could pick one up for peanuts and it would only take a day to swap it in. You would probably rent a crane, and that's about it...

Just thought of something
"spend money on my n/a subaru when my ultimate goal is more power?"
Why would you spend money on a CRX then? If you just need a cheap car there are far better choices in terms of both price and practicality!
For example http://www.craigslist.org/eby/car/27273589.html
30+ MPG, 88k Miles, Original owner 1400$ OBO. Thats not an uncommon deal either
Sounds to me like you dont know what you want
I prefer the old Corollas myself. My sister's idiot lesbian junked her '88 GTS because it needed a clutch. The car was fine otherwise and though she spends huge amounts of money to feed herslef going out all the time I find it hard to believe she couldn't scrape a little cash together for a clutch and just bring it down to the Voc and have some kid do it dirt cheap. Now she takes my sister's new 2001 Outback everywhere and still doesn't have a car over a year later. [head shaking smiley]

Midnight in a Perfect World on Amazon or order anywhere. The first book in a quartet chronicling the rise of a man from angry criminal to philanthropist. Midnight... is a distopic noirish novel featuring 'Duchess', a modified 1990 Subaru Legacy wagon.
