I have a crack in my sunroof, so I called up a good autoglass place today to get it replaced. the only thing MA has going for it is the whole "free glass" thing :D . So I call up this place that did the windshield on my Impreza. I gave them my vehicle info, and the conversation goes:

her - I'm not seeing a sunroof listed for your vehicle. is it aftermarket?
me - Nope, it's factory.
her - are you sure? I'm not seeing a sunroof listed for your vehicle.
me - yes, I'm sure.
her - did it just come on your car when you bought it used, or did you buy it new like that?
me - it was on there when I got it used, but I know they come that way. It's a well known chronic problem that these cars have leaky sunroofs. because they come with sunroofs.
her - well I don't see a sunroof listed for your vehicle...
me - I have the parts catalog from subaru right here. It has every part number for every part of my car. including the factory sunroof. part number 65430 AA000.
her - ...
me - can I just talk to your manager? that'd be great.

anyways, the manager was impressed that I had the part number right off. then he gave props to Subarus and Subaru owners :D . so yeah. I'm getting my sunroof fixed :D .

Igg,

Did they give an estimate price? Mine has a crack as well, but ive never bothered to get an estimate because i assume it would be too much.

Also are they replacing it with glass that has factory blue tint? I really like that tint.

I've got a crack, three actually, as well. I've been curious about how much it'd cost too so please let us know.

My sunroof leaks and I HATE IT!1 :x
i would rather not have a sunroof. however, if i park my car on a uphill slope with the nose of the car pointing up the hill, then it won't leak no matter how hard it rains. i thought, it was those drain tubes, but i don't know. where is your glass cracked?
could the seals be old and leaking in mine?

by the way, how much would it be to get all my tint removed from the side and rear windows and sunroof too? i hate tint. 8)

To remove the tint all you have to do is go at it with a straight razor blade. I've removed TONS of stickers this way and have NEVER scratched any glass. That's how the tint installer said he removed it too.

On the topic of sunroofs, mine leaks just as Aaron described it. If I park it on enough of a hill then it won't leak. Hopefully I'll be able to practice on one of Ciper's car's this weekend and get some idea of how to fix the leak. I haven't gotten to the sunroof because it hasn't rained all that much here lately. I'd like to get it all squared away soon though, so I'll be sure to post what I find.

I'm getting the blue tint. I gave him the part number out of the subaru parts catalog in "the library." I wanted to make sure I got blue and not clear or the uber-sexy brown tint.

as far as cost, list price is around $600 with 1 hour labor. but I wouldn't know how much the job is going to end up costing me :D . In MA glass is free, including glass sunroofs :D . that's one of the few things MA has going for it.

I get some leaks on mine, but I think it's the sealant getting old and porous. the sunroof glass is laminated safety glass just like the glass on your windshield. if I look at my crack (I didn't mean taht how it sounded :D ), it goes all the way from the front to the back of the sunroof. BUT, it only penetrates halfway through the glass and I can see a few tiny air bubbles. so it's not leaking from there.

I'm assuming it's because how much sand they use around here. we get a lot of cracked or otherwise damaged windshields in the winter due to sand and salt. I guess they thought it was sensible to allow for insurance to cover it, the assumption being the damage is the fault of the state. only glass is free and not new paint jobs tho :D . glass is neccecary and paint is "cosmetic" or something.
