Tires for wrx rims?
Moderators: Helpinators, Moderators
Well I dont know what to say besides:
225 50 16 is
larger diameter than stock
slower accelleration
taller sidewalls
possible rubbing
speedo miscalibration
intended for 7 inch wheels
heavier than the equal 205 50 16
You also reduce the amount of PSI to the road, meaning possibly LESS traction depending on the condition.

hehe, I never said it was a good idea, just that it could be done.

Ciper - Are 225's (basically) designed around 7" or 7.5" rims? I've seen them spec'd on both (from the factory) width rims.
Which width would be ideal?

I always thought it was 7.5 . If you choose a few random tires and look at the specified with many say 7!
225 width equals 8.86 inches, cant see how you should have a tire that is nearly 2 inches larger than the rim. When you check the specs on other tires of similar sidewall height they are usually only 1.5 inches wider.

my 205/50/16's have about 1 cm of space in the rear when im not in the car, so diving im sure are rubbing, I know they rub in the front I can feel it. I'm going to chalk that up to real bad suspension though.

Thawa, you have a new name.
I've gotten my re-92's to rub. I have to be driving it really aggressive to do it though. I've been driving htem pretty aggressively and I haven't felt it in a long time.

The 6 places are:
inner frame rail in front of control arm at middle height of tire, left and right
Inner frame rail behind control arm at middle height of tire, left and right
Rear spring perch at upper/inside most portion of tire (middle of spring perch), left and right.
On my sedan now that I have the new continentals with beefy tread I had some shiny spots after playing in the dirt last time!

I would think they would rub since they're even bigger than 205/50/16's

nawp, we got 195/60/15's on the turbos and 185/70/14's on most na's. Now that I realize that the 205/50/16's are actually smaller than the stock sizes, and the 215/45/17's aren't that much bigger, so just disregard everything I said smoeone that has tried it should be able to let you know for sure

I thought we went over this before. WRX rims and 205 tires will rub on NA, but less likely on a turbo model. I have 205/55r16's that barely rub anywhere (all you can see is a light scuff mark or two on the plastic liners). And this is with a completely blown stock suspension. I even had it at beaver run... so I think that's driven hard enough. 95 mph around the last kink in the back stretch + a hairpin right after that.

Ya, I was about to say the same thing. Here's one of the threads where this was discussed.
