Hi,

I have another question.
I can get my hands on a stock 2002 WRX exhaust, from the downpipe to the muffler. What diameter is this exhaust system? (compared to a stock Legacy turbo exhaust). Would it give me any performance increase and would it be any louder than the stock WRX exhaust?

If I got this exhaust system, I would get rid of the cats and just leave the resonators in.

Should I even bother with buying this exhaust and modifying it for my Legacy, or should I just build myself a new one?

i think the turbo legacy's exhaust is bigger. when i need to get an exhaust for mine i'm just going to have a custom midpipe made and buy a new down pipe and muffler, so i would say go custom.

Do you know the exact diameter specs for the Legacy exhaust VS. the WRX exhaust?

Would you swap a stock WRX header in place of a stock Legacy header? Which one do you think will flow better?

I'm in the same boat. I picked up a WRX exhaust real cheap on ebay. Someone here showed me a series of picures where they adapted it to a Legacy so I know its possible. They had to weld in an extension just ahead of the muffler about 4-5 " long. It also wasn't clear if the flanges matched. The pipes on the stock legacy are 2" while the WRX is 2 1/4" It might not matter if the flanges match up. I wonder if the pipe can be heated up and rebent to prevent having to weld in a section of pipe. There is a custom pipe shop I heard of locally and I'm going to haul the stuff over there once the weather here turns nice and see what he can do for me.

The WRX exhaust will have to be lengthened at the midpipe some 3 inches, and the hangers will have to be relocated. You will see some benefit from hallowing out the cats. But I feel you might as well get a SS 3" WRX turbo back for $600 and mod that to fit. Or get a custom 3" Legacy turbo back made up.

I think i remember hearing about the wrx exhausts whistling paired with a ej22t.

It's only the tips on the WRX Muffler, and it's on all of the Legacy's that it does it (from what I hear).

I heard about the whistling WRX muffler on the usual Sube boards. But since it cost me 10.00 I did it anyway. I have no whistling to report, I had a friend drive around me in a parking lot and all I heard was lots of “boxer bark" :twisted: I think it sounds pretty good, not too loud, I don’t need to be advertising what I don’t have.

I thought the whistling was just on non-turbo cars.

I'm looking at a Stock WRX muffler to up-pipe. Realy all I need is a muffler but for the cost of a new muff I can get this whole system (used 2 mos).

Again is it worth it? I dont have the $ for a custom 3" or aftermarket downpipe etc. This is a Lobuck hopup.

I have an EJ22T, adding an IC and manual boost control to make up for the boost lost by IC. I dont figure on running more than 12 PSI.

Would I see any performance gain from this or any part of it?
altho admittedly I would like it to sound a lil nicer w/o sounding like a Honda w/ a farthorn on it.

option 2 would be just buy a 50 series flowmaster.

To clarify, the WRX UPPIPE has the cat, not the header.

In fact, the passenger side manifold has the same partnumber as the WRX and the Legacy Turbo.

Your stock headers will flow just as well as a stock WRX header.

Keep your stock uppipe over the WRX bit, since it has a cat.

Stock WRX piping isn't any larger than stock, it'd just be newer. I wouldn't waste my time with it, but if you want to, go for it.

no. theyre all bascily the same flow and the wrx exhaust will need to be adjusted anyway. just go to ebay and get the tbe from ssautochrome. cheap and easy.
