Ah Geez... More Drifters
There's this trashy house in my neighborhood that I drive by everyday, they have junk piled up in a corner of their yard, and a travel trailer that people sleep in parked on their lawn as well... For the last 3 days their house has been buzzing with work on a certain highly sought after drifter car. They usually have ford trucks, so i've been keeping tabs on this. There's been 2 of these mysterious black hatches, one missing many parts, up on jacks, and the other next to it, recieving many of those missing parts. Drove by this morning, and only the parts car was outside, which leads me to believe, they got their trueno running.
They must have seen initial D last week.

When you said desired drift car, I thought you were talking about the 240SX.

What other engine would you suggest? RB26DETT won't fit, SR20DET is durable, cheap, and can handle all kinds of power.
Why mess with what works?
The people will order their parts from the same people they get the engine from. There aren't really any parts you are going to need that aren't available in the aftermarket. The SR block is pretty damn durable, and all internals are available.

An RB26 does actually fit (with work). SCC did a transplant how to a little while ago.

If it was the flat-black car, then that was an SR20 swap.
The RB26DETT would require significantly more work (and more money, the RB26 ain't a cheap engine) than an SR20, and you wouldn't really see any gains.

Sorry, it's the RB25 that fits. Just looked it up.

Lol, yea, that is pretty dorky...
But at any rate, the RB swap is expensive any way you slice it. The SR20 bolts right in place of the stock KA24DE.

About the RB26DETT, I does fit with relative ease when compared to a 02+ ej20 into a BC. When I was at Virginia Tech, the car club president had a primered "180 ZX" (JDM) with the RB26. He said it took him 3 days to do in his shop. Put down some SERIOUS #'s. Sounded oh so nice too.

I guess I just don't understand how it's "selling out"
It's cheaper to build an SR20 than it is to build a KA24. I mean, the KA series engines are TRUCK engines. They are far from smooth without a LOT of work. Stock, a red-top SR20 can handle around 350 at the crank.
But there are less than 5 SR20 swapped 240's that I've seen around here.

The CA18 is quite the motor itself. The redline is quite a bit higher than a SR20 if I remember correctly. The problem is the lack of aftermarket here in the states for the 1.8
I say 26 the mofo

With all this talk, you would almost think there are plenty of ricers here
JK- Ok, straight six or four, hmmmmm now in a perfect world with no money issues, yes, we would all go for the rb25, but a black top or red top sr20 det engine is an easy swap.and cheaper. SO, I am willing to bet most would go that route. And yes there are lots of parts here for them. The rb series are harder to find parts for in the USA. HELL, who would not want a skyline,( and you can get them..... for a price.)
But hey with contacts you can get anything. Right now I am trying to see how much a few 94-96 wrx ra's whole car-half cut in a container is from Toyko to Seattle is.
Hell, dream big

I do know some companies in the US are supporting the popular JDM cars. I bet at some point some aftermarket specialists will come up with repro parts domestically manufactured (or at least contracted by US companies to overseas manufacturers). There are people who make new parts for Bugattis due to their popularity in vintage racing (real ones - not that crap VW keeps trying to convince people they're going to finally build). Not to say that I think these parts will be real cheap, but they will be more commonly in stock on shelves in the US soon if not now.

Whats wrong with the zg30 or whatever the fuck the engine is in the z31/32's? Don't say it wont fit, you're just not trying.

You mean the VG30? I don't know if that wide-ass engine will fit in a space an inline 4-cyl used to occupy. But I remember seeing someone who actually managed to swap one into a Maxima and keep it FWD! It was an awesome looking car!
I shouldn't have said "selling out," a bit strong of terminology. It's just that I've seen literally DOZENS of 240's with SR20's in them, so I think it's played out already.
But what I wanna try sometime, working at a Toyota dealer and all, take an old Cressida with the 5MGE, toss that thing away, and bolt up a 7MGTE right into it from a 80's Supra Turbo. Right then and there, you almost have a Toyota Chaser to get all sideways in

doesn't the maxima have the vg30? or does it have the ve30?
I know it's got some 3l 6cyl, the 1st and 2nd gen I believe had the i-6 from the 280zx

Funny you should mention that....dscoobydoo wrote:HELL, who would not want a skyline,( and you can get them..... for a price.)
I'm friends with the owner of a pearl white, R32 GT-R. Also a few guys with SR20DET's under 240SX hoods. My next project car is going to be an SR20 powered 240 (or if I can afford it, which I can't, a mkIV Supra). Something about having enough power to be sideways at almost any speed, just makes me happy.
