Hey just for the hell of it, if anyone wants to check out some of my art...

Im currently working on making my car into a 3D model in 3Ds max, so if it goes well, I could change colors, wheels, lower it, change body parts, etc..., all without spending a dime.

Thanks for the compliments, Sometimes I doubt whether im good or not (to be in the industry when this whole art school thing is over, and if im going through all of this just to be used for my artistic skills with no creative control, which then leads into what the hell im doing with my life, but I wont got here
), yet I have this thing where I look at other peoples art and am like "wow thats awesome", then I look at mine and am like "...its ok" yet again a lot of people have called some of my drawings awesome.
Anyway I still have a ways to go, can't quite draw a human figure or face to my likings. I should probably drop in on some more life drawing classes, yet I fear the day where I have to draw some naked dude (seriously, I've heard stories of some male models that get a little too excited
)

I felt the same way in design school. Never helped that I prefer writing to drawing and saw drawing as more of a chore. If you love it just keep pushing and practicing. The senior transportation guys' renderings were unbelievable, but they had no social lives for 6 yrs or so (work load was harder than Harvard Med). A friend of mine (immensely talented) is now at Art Center in Pasadena (as mentioned in another thread - he's in AutoWeek this week) and he's been going for transportation design since 1996. Even had I the money and female support to have continued I lack the determination to have stuck with it that long. A lot of designers don't go out into the work place until their early 30's, so it takes time to get so damn good. Of course some people are just naturally amazing, but just learn to hate them and go on
. I knew this one bastard (actually he was a cool guy) who went to an art specific high school in Miami and he could draw an interior space populated with people with such amazing detail, yet fast sketch quality in 15 MIN. that you'd be floored. I watched him do it and was depressed knowing I'd never be that good.
I find people as hard to draw myself, I'm good at it if I work at it and you didn't know the specific person I was trying to draw. Cars can be easy once you know the tricks. Unfortunately, posting my stuff would be a bad example as I've barely drawn in 6 yrs and my ability has degraded horribly.
You have a good ability to start with - just keep at it and believe in yourself, and know that you may never be the best, but your ideas are what counts the most and all you have to do is communicate them effectively enough to get your point across (or sold). Advice from a quitter - keep it up!
Sorry about the book, but writing's my main creative outlet now.

True, since im in "media arts and animation" I want to focus more on the Media arts side/ concept art/ 3D modeling. The idea of drawing THOUSANDS of the same thing just to make it move, isn't my idea of fun. I want to focus more on Conceptual art (The stuff in the Art of LOTR books is freakin awesome, thats kind of the level I want to reach), I haven't posted my best stuff either. The fact that im paying so much for tuition doesn't help the "what if it turns out that I dont like doing this" factor, cause then it's 60 grand down the drain. Not to sound self centered or anything, but everything I like doing im good at (music, car stuff, computer stuff, drawing) guess that leave a lot of back up if this art thing flops. As for "female support" I could use that the most right now...been through a lot of shit the past 3 years.your ideas are what counts the most
Anyway, I think art and drawing and stuff has its ups and downs, sometime you can draw really well, other times it feels like you can't draw anything right.
Always good to have a creative outlet, mines usually playing the acoustic or bass guitar, the calming effect it has is amazing, always makes me feel better

Its so true that some days you just have suck days where you can't do anything, then there are other days where you amaze yourself and have to sit back and say, "Shit, I didn't just do that!"
I learned I didn't want to design cars, but the experience wasn't at all a waste to me. I travelled around after that seeing the countries and things I needed to see before I died and I learned so many valuable lessons in design that apply to any creative field that it's helped me with my sculptures and writing immensely as well as gotten me decent paying jobs. For me writing and driving listening to music is my big escape. Unfortunately, I'm not in the least bit musically inclined and still lack the female support.
