Whiteline GC8 springs on MY90 Legacy wagon too low! Pics.

Post by Sean »

Chassis: MY90 FWD Legacy L Wagon
Struts: KYB GR2 MY92 FWD Legacy Wagon
Springs: Whiteline Impreza Sedan
Strut Top Mounts: Impreza Sedan

 So I posted a while ago about suspension options for the MY90 Legacy L wagon. Since the car was free and I had a garage full of spare suspension bits from various rally cars, I figured I'd Frankenstein a suspension setup and experiment a little.

Well, I did the install today, and the rear is way too low! First, let me just say that I knew that the rear end would be too low, but I needed to get the blown struts and dryrotted strut top mounts off the car. I'm keeping the setup as it is until I can source cheap/free non-tapered wagon springs. ;)

The front is hot. The rear is...not so much. :D The 205 width 15" Gislaved snow tires on Forester wheels were rubbing on the fenders, so I had to go back to the 175 width 14" all seasons. The car is now quite neutral with slight understeer tendencies, but I can toss her around and easily induce throttle lift oversteer and pendulum oversteer.

Am I satisfied with the car? No. Is the setup adequate, and better than it was yesterday? Yes. Will I get my butt in gear and search for wagon springs? You betcha. :D Heading to the Worcester junkyard this Saturday, so I'll let IggDawg, my Sherpa, lead me to a wrecked wagon.

whiteline does make a GF8 rear spring, but they aren't easy to find. I know the part number is somewhere on RS25.com

That might solve your problem with the rear being too low.
