Stereo Rewiring.....

Post by Legacy777 »

Well my stereo has been funky lately...cutting out.....so I said screw it....and decided to rewire the entire thing....well mainly just rca's and speaker wire.

The car's almost completely gutted.....I ran speaker wire to the front doors through the existing rubber protector.....that was a little bit of a pain in the arse.....

Goin to try and put the carpet back in tomorrow so the car is at least driveable.....goin to take tomorrow off from work :)

Also found out that I hit something and there is a small crack in the floor pan......little disconcerning......I'm goin to silicone it up.......hopefully that will help keep things dry.

I started my install today too.

I put my cd player in as soon as I got the car but didn't install my amps or speakers or EQ.

I started by cutting the 2 and 1/2 DIN area for the HU to make it a 3+ DIN sizing so I have a 1 DIN HU, 1 DIN EQ and the factory pocket.

I ran my 3 RCA and Remote wires down the center under the console and carpet, and Found out I need some longer 4 gauge wire for my power to the amps so that'll continue tomorrow.

as for removing the entire interior... well I'll just do the tuck and hide option with speaker wires.

I must say Josh your interior looks like it's a brand new car in comparison to mine.

LOL! I still see sound deadening material there!! Better get back to work!!

j/k! I'm sure the stereo system would offset all the benefits of gettin rid of the insulation anyways!

updated pics......put it all back together today.......gotta love it....take it apart in one day....put it together in one :)

From first listening.......sounds very good......and it's horribly tuned......I've got the line driver set....but all the rest of the gains are way off.......however the sound I'm getting out of the fronts is really quite amazing......pretty sure it's the wiring......that stock stuff was shit.

I'm really anxious to get it tuned......should sound awesome!

About the crack in the floorpan. Just making sure you know that you need to get the non reactive silicone or else it will cause the metal to rust IIRC. Hope this helps.
