VRG3 is going to think this is rice...

I blacked out my side-marker lights today.

I was tired of seeing the yellow lenses clutter up the newly all-black trim.

I used stuff called "Night-Shades" that I got off of my neighbor (who got it from Summit Racing).

Right now, they are shiny as a new dime, but they should tone down and match perfectly with the slightly faded body molding.

It limits light output by a good margin, but side marker lights are not required in Maryland (if the car DOES have them, they must shine through as amber up front and red out back, mine shine amber up front).

It'll be like they were never there.

I'll get pictures up when I have the opportunity. Probably take some tomorrow after I get the de-chroming all finished. This time tomorrow, there will be no chrome on the car at all. It'll look a LOT cleaner.

They will eventually look like the side markers (in front of the front fender and behind the rear fender) on my neighbors car:

Wow.

Last time I saw you you were talking about how you'd like to convert them into combination turn signals and parking ltights. Now you've done the opposite.

The fact that MD doesn't require something doesn't mean it's dumb to remove it. There are lots of examples in automotive lighting alone.

At least swap in W5W bulbs to partly make up for the dimmening.

I still might do your parking/turn signal mod Vikash, that is if I can ever get my other 50 projects completed.

I likely will install some brighter bulbs to make them a bit brighter at night.

Looking at the car all blacked out though, that yellow lens detracts a LOT from the overall appearance of the car. With the chrome, it's not so bad because there are other things to distract your attention from the middle section of the car. With no chrome, your eyes tend to focus specifically on the yellow sidemarker. Having no visible yellow on the car (during the day) adds a lot to the overall appearance of the car. If I can make it so the light is just as bright at night, then that's just a bonus because they will function normally during the night, and look good during the day. The yellow just seemed out of place on the car that has no other yellow on it (clear corners and tails with only hints of yellow, the side markers stand out and clash with the rest of the car).

I'll get some pictures up asap so you can see it.

Look at Roman's car, and you can hardly tell that they didn't come from the factory that way.

I see the omission of a red rear marker light but the application of a front, yellow marker light to be a design flaw. None or both, never only one.

I think you'll actually like it Vikash. ESPICALLY if I get the brighter bulb to make it function normally during the night.

I guarantee I won't like it.

I consider the fact that the cars left the factory with the sidemarkers not functioning as turn signals and containing 194 bulbs instead of W5W bulbs to be defects.

Speaking with Hardy (THAWA) I came up with an idea I kind of like a bit more than just blacked out marker lights...

I MIGHT just hit up a junk yard and pull the trim from a pre-facelift car that doesn't have the lights at all. Just do a full delete of the lights. That might be another option.

Sweet! Thanks Laurel!

I'm really considering swapping the trim with an early legacy that has no lights though. That is a damn good idea. It'll tie the trim together nicely and not be "rice," which is awesome.
