AWIC with a VF11 or a TD05
I have the opportunity to get a AWIC and along with it a TD05. I'm not eager to swap out the turbo but I would love to have a AWIC setup for the legacy. What differences would I have between mounting the AWIC to the VF11 vs. the TD05?
Also, can someone point me in the right direction to get piping made or buy piping for this setup?
Thanks guys
-Brian

Ciper, Brat4by4, or vrg3 would be the best people to ask. All three know the setup of the AWIC (Ciper and Brat4by4 actually have them, and vrg3 knows a shit ton about a lot of stuff).
Ask them.

If you're just talking about differences between installing an AWIC with the stock turbo and with the TD05...
The TD05 should be easier. The stock inlet pipe for the air/water intercooler is designed to mate up with a compressor outlet in the same position as the TD05's. You'd need to come up with something creative to connect the stock turbo to the AWIC's inlet; basically just an elbow with one end longer than the other, and a bung somewhere along it for the blowoff valve.
Realize, though, that the TD05 is not just a drop-in replacement for the stock turbo, and would require some massaging and rearranging to fit.

Apparently you have to rearrange all the small lines:

Not eager about the TD05? That is the first time I have heard that. I am having a hard time understanding exactly why it would be harder to use the VF-11. My EJ20 uses the VF-10 (almost the same) and as best I can tell is identical to the one that was on my USDM Legacy Turbo. But if you really don't want that TD05, I will trade you my VF-10 and AWIC plumbing for your TDO5 and your intake plumbing and a nominal cash sum that we can negotiate via pm.

Yeah, everything is still Kostamojen's... so dont be feeding him any idea's hehehe
I would love to have the turbo, dont get me wrong. After all the reading up ive done i think it'd be better to go with it. Expecially seeing the thread about the cracked VF11's.
But the last thing i need is another $300 speeding ticket.

Wouldn't the td05 be just as prone to having the cracks though? or is it from some newer engine?
