grand prix supercharger on a grand am gt

Post by TurboLegacy »

my friend has a newer 3.4 grand am gt, i was wondering if anyone knew if you could put a grand prix 3.8 supercharger on it with no modification to the heads. i think it would be cheaper for him to do that instead of a supercharger specifically made for his car. thanks

Apparently the 3.4 liter engine is a 60-degree V6 and the 3.8 is a 90-degree V6:

I would think that would make the heads further apart on the 3.8, which would probably mean the supercharger wouldn't fit right onto the 3.4.

Nosirebob.

The 3400 and the 3800 are very very different engines. Like Vikash just said, the 3400 is a 60 degree V6 and the 3800 is a 90 degree V6.

Your best bet would be to drop the 3800 into your Grand Am and be done with it. There are no real effective ways to get power from the 3400's save a custom FI system. Even an N/A 3800 would be a noticeable improvement. That's a torquey little bitch.

Would the wider 3.8 fit the smaller engine bay? Either way I wouldn't want to try to supercharge the N/A 3.4, those engines are bad enough without adding custom FI issues.

That's a good question that I don't really have the answer to. I'd imagine that it COULD fit with some massaging, but I don't know for sure.

It WILL take a good bit of modification to fit the 3800SC into the Grand Am. If he wants a blower that bad for cheap, a my99 2 door GTP supercharged can be had for around $6500. With a smaller pulley(2.75"), free flowing exhaust, CAI, and bigger fuel pump he could have it over 315HP easy.

GP's and Monte Carlos are HUGE here in the south. Damn quick too.

I was wondering why they still sold those - nobody buiys them up here so it seemed strange for them to keep making them. Sticker's like 30K on the MCSS - when I saw the sticker on the thing I would've done a spit take had I something in my mouth. A guy at work had a supercharged Bonneville that wasn't too bad, but the interior was awfully cheap.

We sell those Bonneville SSEi's like candy. Everybody down here loves em. Damn quick too. They just started putting the new 320HP Northstar Caddy V8 in them also. New for 2005.

That V8's nice. I'm glad they're finally going back to rwd for Caddy, but I guess we're going way off topic now.

The GTP was direct competiton with the Ford Taurus SHO. Not the old GTP's, but the SC GTP's. They are DAMN quick. High 14's are stock times.

I saw a GTP put 450lb-ft to the wheels. That thing was stupid fast. I got a ride in it and my kidneys were punching my spine. It was insane.
