TD05 installed, now I have compressor surge
I finally got around to installing my new TD05-16G. Everythings hooked up right (i think) and Im running 9-10 psi. When I let off the gas it sounds like a rally car; the bypass valve makes a fluttering noise. Its the stock bpv, and I know a few people here have a similar setup. Any ideas of whats causing this?
Thanks,
Jim
Thanks,
Jim

You always hear the fluttering on super high powered Supras and stuff. Sounds cool, but can't be good for any part of the turbo setup.

nah, its normal for the compressor to sound like that with the standard bov, don't worry about it, just get a bigger bov to help keep the thing spinning.

You'll have to get the bov designed for the v2 wrxs. They use a completely different setup than the new wrx.

i'm going to be getting a AVO PLUMBACK bov, and increase the diameter of the hole on my i/c plumbing to accomodate the larger bov. make sure whatever bov you get is a plumback one, unless you have a ECU that allows you to remove the AFM.

for now my fuel injectors and pump are stock. injectors are running 80% idc. the pump is getting replaced in a few days. i havent driven it hard, cause the turbo's not broken in yet. it feels slower right now, i think due to the fact that my temporary turbo to i/c hose has a slight kink in it, and i also think my bpv finally crapped out on me. i think its stuck open.
does anybody know a bpv that fits the slanted style i/c and pipe, i.e. one that is straight through like the stock one?

I was running 100%IDCs at anything over 12psi with a walbro 255lph pump and stock injectors. Here's a bov that you'd be looking for. It's a little bling for my taste, but it utilizes the stock design with a piston instead of diaphragm. There are some dealers for Forge products in the us, but you'll have to search for them:impostor wrote:for now my fuel injectors and pump are stock. injectors are running 80% idc. the pump is getting replaced in a few days. i havent driven it hard, cause the turbo's not broken in yet. it feels slower right now, i think due to the fact that my temporary turbo to i/c hose has a slight kink in it, and i also think my bpv finally crapped out on me. i think its stuck open.

I was told, however, that the stock bov can accomodate up to 20psi

Yes, WOW! With VAT it is 128 pounds=$235 US w/o shipping! I think I'll stick with the stocker for now.LegacyT wrote:wow 107 pounds for an aftermarket replacment!!!
Has anyone had luck with an atmo venting bov, i.e. maintaing a good idle? Im not worried about running rich between shifts because, well, I have an automatic

Good luck finding a new stock bov, I tried a few months ago when mine went out and the subaru guy said he could only find one in the entire u.s. database. they wanted like 150bucks plus 20 bucks shipping.
I bought a forged dvr in black and I love it. They sell them here...

If you're willing to do a little adapting, Bosch BOVs are plentiful and function just like our stock ones. You should be able to get them new from Saab or Porsche dealerships, or used on eBay. They have the inlet and outlet at 90 degrees from one another and the fittings are for 22mm hose rather than 19mm hose.
