Is anyone running 225's?

I hear some people say that 215's are the widest that can tuck under the Sport Sedan. I hear some people say that 225's SHOULD fit.

Who's got real experience?

I'm undecided on which rims I want (it's down to Rota Slipstreams [waiting to see them inperson on my buddies Focus and his moms Monte Carlo] and the Rota SDR's), so I figure I'll just use the "stock" 15x7's for now.

I'll probably just get a set of Kuhmo Ecsta's or something for the "stock" rims, since anything is better than the "mastercraft Avenger" that's on there now.

Also, the rims on the car now are 15x7 with a 45mm offset. Does that sound like the right offset?

I run 225/45/17's.
just be careful what you get some work some dont. this will also change depending on what suspension you run and that type of thing.

I like toyo t1s's for the money.
they sell 205-50-15 for 99 or 225-50-15 for 109
or if you could fit a 195-50-15 on your 15x7's they got those for 59.00. you can't beat that deal.

I can highly recommend the T1S's, I really like em. And Id save yourself some trouble, and get 215s. They barely fit.

Kelley: what offset are your wheels?

well with the stock suspension I had 53 mm offset wheels with 225/45/17 michelin pilot sports and toyo t1s's. this will vary not only between between wheels and brands but also between differant tires. for example kumho v700's rubbed with the prodrive suspension while the t1s's did not. both 225/45/17.
I have ran other wheel offsets but they were with different suspension set ups.

on stock suspension with 48 offset OZ/Prodrive Supperleggeras my 225/45/17 azenis sports rub too...but its because they're so wide for 225's. a kumho for instance would rub.

I had the same issue on my WRX and resolved it by pulling the fenders out a little and putting eibach camber bolts in the struts to give the rear wheels some negative camber. That kept the tires off the fenders.

As other's have said it's all dependent on your suspension setup, offset, and the types of tires you use.

A 225 for different manufacturers can vary alot with dimensions (when talking about clearance). Also, some tires have rim guards and such, which also add to width.

the v700's (r compound) are quite wider for a 225.
I am currently running them with 48 offset wheels, dms 50
s aprox. 1.5 down even all around, and noltec camber adj. lateral links. you can really get a good alignment with these.
no rub at all.

maybe a little off topic.....but checking that site that kelley posted, the Pirelli p7000 supersports are 2000 per tire!!

I had no idea they were that expensive! Are they just really good all season tires? Are they good in snow?

That price tag is just way too high. buying those would be more money than I spent on the car itself.

I've had several sets of Pirellis and though I love Italian things in general, I found them to be overpriced with poor wet weather traction and tread life. I've had Yokohamas for a couple different cars and I've always been pleased with them - long tread life, good traction, much cheaper than competitors.

Topic was solved. 215's is what I'll be running whenever I decide to get new rims.

They will likely be 215/whatever profile? on a set of Bronze Rota Subzero's (17x7).

Hopefully a set of BFG G-Force KDW's because they are pimp looking and feeling tires

215/50 is right inbetween the stock height and te 205/55.

Although, I do think that the 205/50 is a closer match to stock.

215/55 is almost the same size as stock (stock is 195/60, right?).

I am very glad I saw this topic, as I was just wondering what the widest tire I could fit on my stock SS wheels was.

Looks like 215/55 it is.

Anyone here run Kumho Ecsta 711s? I've heard great things about the 712s, but the 711s are about half the price and available in more sizes.

Take a look a Falken 451s. I have them on my WRX. Great dry traction and they are good in the wet as well. They are a little loud, but not too bad.

I've got Rota Attacks w/48mm offset and Falken 215-45-17's on my 90 wagon. They fit great and don't rub. They clear the rear struts by about 1/4"

711's are an all season tire. Not nearly as much wet or dry grip as 712's, but won't run like slicks in the snow or cold. My back end would step out on the highway with the temperature below 32 or so (0 degrees for the backward folk

). Of course I drove my car about 4 times all winter.

I don't see anyone who has tried wider than 225. I just ordered some 16X8's and I'm going to run 235s so we'll see what happens. If I need to roll the fenders so be it.

Wow, way to revive an old thread!!

If the coilovers I had worked out, I would have been able to clear a 245 I think (but with different wheels and more offset).

225/45/17's are pretty much the limit with regular struts and no body modification.
