'90 NA Idle Question

I have a '90 Legacy and when I go to stop sometimes the engine will die right before I come to a complete stop. It will idle fine once I start it back up and I have found that if I dont push in the clutch until I am almost stopped the engine doesnt die as much. What does this sound like?

IAC valve maybe? Try searching for "iac valve" and seeing if other peoples' symptoms are similar to what you experience.

I was thinking it might be the IAC but I cant find that on my engine. I know it is on the intake but have no idea what it looks like. Can anyone post a picture or describe what I should be looking for? Thanks

It's just below the PCV valve. It has an electrical connection at the top, and a 19mm intake hose coming into it.

Found it, awsome picture vrg3 thanks! Now I just have to find away to get those two nasty screws out.

Thank Josh for taking all those great pictures when he did his injectors and intake manifold gaskets.

Two screws? You're going to try to disassemble the IAC valve? I don't recommend doing that, but if you do, be sure to mark the position of the plastic top portion relative to the body of the valve, since they're calibrated from the factory.

Oh, I shouldnt take it off? How should I clean the IAC then? The post I read from ciper says...
Remove pcv valve
Remove top (electronic portion) of IAC
Remove hose for the IAC at the intake side
Fill hose with plenty of carb cleaner, while turning the valve
Fill the tube again and this time blow while turning, air and cleaner will escape through the PCV valve hole

Do you know of another way?

That is indeed what ciper suggests... I'm just a little uneasy about the possibility of upsetting the factory calibration. I haven't ever cleaned my IAC valve, since it was brand new when I got the car less than 2 years ago, but I would either remove the entire valve from the car to clean it or clean it with Sea Foam or carb cleaner while it was still installed on the car with the engine idling to pulse the valve.
