Fuse 14 - Really for the ECU?
Moderators: Helpinators, Moderators
So I was wrong....I thought clearing codes resets the ECU.
But how do you reset the ECU???
Disconecting the batery even for 12 hours doesn't work for me. Not even to clear the codes. So...how can I reset the ECU??? The Haynes manual doesn't say anything about reseting ecu only about clearing codes.
I even had the ECU out of the car and harneses for at least 10 minutes and it still didn't erase the codes...I donno if it reseted the ECU couse I donno how you can tell without a ScanTool.
Please...for me and other people...make a clear clasification of the things to do. Thank you verry much in advance.

minoru - I wish I could give clear instructions, but I have no understanding of why disconnecting the battery and pressing the brake pedal doesn't work for some people.
Nico - If you leave them plugged in your ECU will run as if in test mode, so it won't do the usual learning and stuff. Usually you only want to plug both pairs of connectors together to clear codes.
5 months is probably long enough to reset the ECU.

It might actually make sense to leave at least the green pair connected, since you could get more consistent results. I haven't tried using that type of piggyback though so I can't say for sure though.

If that prevents learning on the ECU, that'd be perfect. That's the problem with piggy backs on Subaru ECU's. No matter what they set it to, the ECU eventually learns around it, quite amazing actually. I don't believe in them (piggybacks), but the people using them might like to know this.
