I didn't drive a Legacy?

I'm seriously considering replacing the TW with something newer, or at least in better condition than my BF. It's got enough problems that i'm really having doubts about its future.

I'm entertaining, at the moment, a 91 SS, 94 SS, perhaps an BG...

...and a 98 2.5RS.

I love the Legacies, but i'm diverse enough in my tastes that i really can't ignore the superior properties that an RS will offer. Granted, it lacks a few things i'd miss, like a turbo (at the moment) and a moonroof, but it's also a LOT lighter, has no rust, and has a very straight body.

Basically, i'm looking for a new canvas, one with a lot less wear around the edges and holes in the middle.

So, what do you think?

BBS is going nowhere, it's going to be around as long as someone wants to care for it, whether it's me or someone else. I'd still run it for the forseeable future if i owned any car, same goes for the site.

These cars are getting old and sometimes I think about newer cars myself (like the new turbo Legacy that won't even weigh much more). Not all relationships have to be permanent. Had I a big garage I'd probably semi-retire my BF and get something else for everyday. I don't blame you at all, I just hope you find something you like as much.

While I honestly find it hard for you to fall out of love with such a fantastic car, you should at least pass it on to someone who would love it always and forever.

If you were to sell your TW, do not put it in the paper, do not put it on eBay, don't even tell Nabisco or anything. Post an ad in here, and keep it in the family. Your car is a staple of this board and it's only right to keep it in the board.

As for the board, I'm sure it can be kept up between Legacy777 and THAWA...

My first love of subarus started with the 98 Impreza RS.
It didn't make me stop looking and comparing other model lines.

Do what you need to do to take care of your Autoxing needs.

As long as the bbs doesn't die out, then you'll live.

What are the weights of the GC8's? If you go to that platform you get better looks, but quite a few downsides. First off the weight balance is much more nose heavy and the aerodynamics are more brick-like. You also start puttzing around with some weaker components being that it was only made for about 180 hp max (tranny, block, brakes, and stuff).

If I were you, I think you would really enjoy a SS. Swap out the goodies that will fit from your wagon and you will have a much nicer ride since it will lose lots of weight to begin with. The balance on the car is phenomenal... and the brakes are phenomenal with the WRX upgrade up front. At the track I could understeer or oversteer depending on throttle inputs... and this is with a suspension that is not quite matched to my cars weight characteristics (SPT). I have done the battery to the trunk deal, so I am around 55/45 (1% of 3,000 = 30 lbs = battery). You keep your sleeperness and you get to smack down on much faster cars without them knowing what hit them.

The 98 RS Coupe is about 2800lbs, so at least 400lbs lighter than a Turbo BF, even with the tranny swap. The car i'm looking at probably makes 180-200hp, but it also weighs %14 less, so it'd probably be faster than mine.

I can get a CF hood for it, if i were looking for a weight reduction, as well as battery relocation.

I'm still pondering this stuff, of course, because i rarely make quick decisions that i don't regret somehow. I may end up getting an SS if a nice one comes available, but we'll just see.

Careful.. don't forget about torque, specifically where you get it. The 2.5 makes lots of torque, but at a much higher RPM. I spank on highly modded NA 2.5RS's with just my exhaust. I guess it would come down to what you want in looks and power levels. I'll tell you right now that you most likely will tire of the 2.5RS's NA power levels quickly. If you are honestly going to be able to live with a max of 220-230 hp, then the GC is the way to go. Otherwise you need a SS, WRX, or to swap an EJ22T in the GC.

I weighed my SS and it came in at 2980 lbs with 4 gallons of fuel + WRX seats + full interior. Just for comparison's sake. And it's a manual of course.

I agree with the torque, and even more so on the Phase I DOHC. I would miss that clutch-smoking torque at 2500 rpms...

The 93 SS was listed at 3100, and the TW at 3300, according to the press packet i have scanned in. The RS is listed at 2825, according to cars101.

The press packet on my wife's car and everything else I've read says the 4-door GM6 Impreza RS weighs 2785. It's a fun car, but the torque of the EJ22T is hard to give up. The other benefit of an RS is the fuel economy...MUCH better.
