anything to be worried about in a reman flywheel?

Post by 95LAWD »

My understanding is that a remanfactured flywheel is a perfectly good flywheel that was once used and then cleaned up and resurfaced. anything to be worried about?

I'm paying something like $40 and change and a $50 and change core charge for a reman flywheel. Also going with OEM clutch kit. (pp, clutch, tob)

thanks

I don't know about our cars specifically, but I do know that a lot of Supra owners have problems when they use flywheels that aren't properly resurfaced. Apparently the step height is really critical for that tranny/clutch setup, and a lot of places either machine the entire step away (either because they don't notice it since it's small or they think it shouldn't be there) or leave it with an incorrect step.

Like I said, though, I don't know about our cars.

they did machine mine correctly, with the .003" step. It's not an issue of machining, but rather, if it will hold up.

In that case I can't imagine why a remanufactured flywheel could cause trouble.

Does it come with a warranty?

you will be fine at your power levels. if someone is pushing 300+ hp then they have to start worrying about flywheels shattering.

Well, it runs, it drives, and it kicks some ass.

Someone decided they wanted to race, and I hadn't really thought about it. So they got about a car length ahead of me because I hadn't launched yet... then I launched... hey, where'd they go? ;)

I never had my legacy with a clutch that had this much grip... it's alot mo' fun!

Flywheels are kind of like brake rotors. They can only be turned a few times.

If the clutch slips to nothing, you can shred the whole flywheel to the point where resurfacing it won't do any good.

But when remanufactured (properly) you shouldn't have any durability issues you wouldn't have with a new flywheel.
