94 Lecacy - Water in trunk lid platic panel taillamp?

Post by mrtman_98 »

I have a weird problem, just noticed that I have water in the platic panel of the rear trunk lid section of my 94 Legacy. Is there some kind of a drain plug that could be plugged up? This is weird and I'm not sure how to fix, there definately is a problem with water seaping in there but I'm not sure where at. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated. I'm also a new person to this forum, I bought a 94 Legacy with 130,000 miles and I can't get over how good she drives and runs for a 10 year old car. Thanks.

Wagon or sedan, does it have a sunroof?

not sure where you mean you are finding the water...

if there is water on the side where you keep the jack, the sunroof and antenna drain hoses have come out of the hose they attach to

if you have water in the spare tire well and the trunk carpeting is wet then your tail lights are leaking water... run a bead of silicone where the water around the trunkk lid gutter would run over the tail ights.

that's all i can think of for the moment but hope one of them helps you out

It's just the 4 door sedan, no sunroof. The water is in the clear pastic section of the trunk taillight. No water inside the trunk area itself. Just might take it over to the body shop this week and have them look at it. The water is causing condensation in the tail lights.

there's a silicone bead that is run around the rear of the car before the taillights are installed, i'm guessing this is leaking

ya that black sealant stuff could be leaking. Are there any cracks in the plastic lenses?

Actually, it sounds like he's got water inside the plastic light assembly. I just had a look at my spare one, and I'm not sure how you'd get water in there. Easiest way to get it out, and keep it drained, would be to drill a small hole in one of the bottom corners, it should drain/evaporate then.

Thanks Ryan, that's exactly what I did and it did the trick. Now that I think what happened is that the day I picked the car up the guy had the car washed and he was using a power spray so I think that's how all the water got into the lense area, most probably through the key opening, just my guess!

Thanks
