That spinning thing that makes all of the cool noises. OE and Aftermarket.

Boost Leak?

Post by LegacyPunk »

So sometimes when I accelerate and when the turbo starts boosting I hear a loud SHHHHHHH noise and it doesn't feel like the car is being pushed by the turbo. Could this be a boost leak or BOV leak? Ive been having this problem ever scince I put a WRX IC on the car but Im pretty sure everything from the turbo to IC is tight.
I have no idea why its doing this, ill put my WRX bov on this weekend to see if the stock bov is the problem. :?

Sure sounds like a boost leak... What's your boost gauge read?

anywhere from 8 to 11 psi, it stays constant though, starts making the noise around 5 psi

Are you using aftermarket boost control?

What happens when you put your boost control back to stock?

I get the same noise. On mine, I'm just hearing the air move through my intercooler. It's very loud as a few members could attest to. Did the sound start when you put in the I/C or later. Another thing is if the I/C is touching the firewall it will be very loud. This would not effect the "pull" of the car however. Mine pulls hard.

Understatement of the year. Your car is flat out fast. Not as fast as Jasons/Vikash's car, but still plenty fast.

Bingo, its the BOV, I put my WRX bov on it and no leaky noise, so its got to be the BOV, it did sound like something from within the intake. Anyone know of any aftermarket WRX BOV that recirculate off to the side or something???

You might be able to adapt a Bosch OEM-type BOV:
