Struts, spring, anti-rollbars, braces and the like.

How much abuse can my GR-2's take??

Post by Mr.Pessimist »

I've had my GR-2's on for a year and a half now and I've hit some pretty hairy stuff (on accident of course).

As an example, I was coming home from college and I was driving at night in really bad weather. I came around a corner at 65mph and hit a large rock that had fallen in the road. The car hit so hard that it made my ears ring and sounded like a bomb went off. So I pulled off the side of the road and checked out the suspension. It looked fine so I continued to drive home. Eventually I took my 17's off to switch to snow tires and found that I had cracked the rim in two spots. Since then I have (accidentally) hit deep pot holes, train-tracks w/ major holes, on-road steel construction plates, etc.

So the question is...how much can these struts take?

It almost brings me to tears everytime I hit something with my car...its depressing

I've considered switching back to 14's and putting Cadillac suspension on or just buying a truck. I hate unkept roads.

the gr2 can take a good amount of abuse and plus they have a lifetime warranty. i personally prefer 15's they have a good compromise of ride vs/handling. they leave you w/a little more rubber inthe sidwall. but not so much that they are squishy roll over.

i rallycross w/my gr2 and they are still ok but they only have about 5 events on them sofar. may be a different story in a couple years though. but thats what a warranty is for, right?

The Gr2's should be pretty strong. I have rallycrossed on AGX for years with no problems, and they should be pretty similar to the Gr2. I'm sure I put my struts through much worse than yours have seen.

I'm feeling better already...:)

Today I'm switching back to my 15's since I'm running outta rubber on my 17's and cannot afford to get new rubber. So the extra coushin of the 60 series tires should be more forgiving on my struts....at least for a little while.
