drifting?
anyone drift their legacy? if other people do it, ill do it. that whole peer pressure thing.

I can't wait till this drifting fad is over. The actual act of drifting to increase lap times is good, but just dickin around drifting cause you just got inital D episode 7 or whatever the hell is annoying to me.

I drift my legacy every now and then... not because of a fad but just to practice rallying techniques, pendulums and what not.... and it doesn't hurt to put some so called "drifters" in their place when they see a 12 year old sedan doing what they can't do with their "race cars"
There are some organized and sponsored drift competitions in my area and seeing the lack of talent i'm honestly considering making the car rear wheel drive for a summer just to make some money winning a few events... either that or invest in a long wanted mechanical LSD for the rear

for a couple laps or so at beaver run I ended up stuck behind this mini cooper S. i couldn't pass him outright on the straights (and you were supposed to wait to be waved past
) but the driver sucked in the corners.
anyways, i would come up on him in the corners so hot that i would have to release all throttle. well, when you release the throttle and leave it that way the back end starts to rotate in our cars. about 3 or 4 times I completely drifted these two corners. nothing crazy like full-lock counter-steer, but i was hanging my back end pretty far out. oh man, i wish the flag guys had cameras because they were the only ones who could see it. i bet you they are still talking about it to this day.

Drifing is fun. It's also an interesting way to learn how to handle your precious car in an emergency situation. 
Ironically enough, I live near a mountain with a pretty damn trecherous road coming down. It's steep, has sharp turns, and has a cliff on one side.
The freeway at the bottom of that is also quite a barrel of fun. Remember, this is coming from 5,000 feet to about 2,000 feet. A LOT of drop. I've never drifted this road (especially not in the truck), but if I could 'rent' the road for a few days, I might try some dorifto.
Inital D did get me into Drifting, but as soon as I tried it in the RWD truck, I forgot about the Anime and found value and fun in doing the real thing. Since learning how to control low speed and medium speed drift, I have avoided several volatile situations where serious wrecks could have happened. Mostly, it's taught me how to not drive during understeer (which, unfortunatly, didn't work very well in my first Legacy L, as it is now being parted and sold for money by an insurance company. D:)
Since I want to do performance rally, drifing is a necessary skill to learn. I find watching real life drifting is much more fun than Inital D. Playing CMR 4 is almost as fun as real life rally. :p

I am still reminded everyday of my drifting incident (my now black front bumper). Of course this was 2 years ago when I was a lot dumber and couldn't drive as well...
It was raining pretty hard, so I thought I'd get my tail out. Came into a left-hand corner waaay late, turned the wheel really sharply, and in 1st, punched the gas. Oh I got sideways all right, so much so that I overcorrected and then went completely and totally sideways, scraping my front bumper across the side of a parked car
I waited for the police to show up, and he was so happy I stayed that he didn't give me a ticket, just said I should exchange info with the owner of the parked car (flaming homo BTW
). A few months later, when I had some extra cash, I put a new front bumper on and had it painted under the table at my dealership. 3 months later the paint starts chipping off, and just before the Dragon this year, I just decided to hose all the paint off, hence my black bumper 
That's why the car is getting a top-of-the-line paint job soon...

I only drift and play around when there is snow on the ground. I feel more comfortable in it, and it seems to harm the car a lot less.
I have never tried pavement drifting, I can barely get the ass end to kick out, then again I haven't tried Unbelievably hard...
As for rain.. again, haven't tried it...
Then again I usually have my AFSR Turned on and we all know that it causes the car to slow down.

I've only done it on dirt roads and in the snow since it can be done at lower speeds so there's more allowance for the unforseen and cops. That and I don't have anyone subsidizing my tire consumption.

For tons of drifting fun, try rallycross or a snowy parking lot.
But on dry pavement, or even wet pavement, forget about it! You have to push a low-power AWD car really hard to get it to drift much on pavement. Not much fun. And on public property, not very healthy!!!
