$75 intercooler
I just put an intercooler on my rally car for $75 total cost.
It only works if you have removed the A/C condenser.
I remounted fans in front of the radiator, revering flow.
Hoses and connectors are a combination of junkyard parts and Hot Tub water hoses( $20).
The intercooler ($50) is from a Volvo 720 and fits behind the radiator very nicely indeed.

I'd put a pic on except I'm a better mechanic than a programmer.[/img]

Hey, nice! I've had one of those Volvo intercoolers in my garage for a long time and was going to try to fit it, but then I gave up on it and offered it for sale...
Maybe I'll keep it after all, since at this rate I'm never going to get around to fixing my air conditioning.
If you would like to email me the pictures I could host them for you. My email address is at the bottom of my web page (follow the "www" link below this message).

i used the pvc pipe off the volvo on yhe drivers side with a short piece of tubing into the turbo.
The turbo outlet is small, 1 1/2 inches, so The hose. $2.97 a foot from Home Depot is as small.
It seems to work okay.

Yeah, might be a little more advantageous to have the intercooler in front of the radiator, otherwise it becomes an interHEATER.

If you're going to have the intercooler behind the radiator, you should at least have an additional fan or two mounted flush to the IC configured as pullers -- the radiator's heat is not helping that setup. Can't put it on the front? Does that mess up the piping routes?

$75 intercooler update.
OK, Don't use hot tub hoses on intercooler!! The heat deformed them badly and shrunk were it was clamped. The 1 1/2 inch inside diameter shrunked to about a half inch.
I switched to 2 " fuel filler hose and it seems to hold so far.
I put a boost controller on and have run up to about 12 lbs. Very fast.
The intercooler may be less effiecient mounted behind the radiator but it seems to work quite well. I'm going to check out the tempeature drop in and out of the intercooler today, but it sure feels much cooler on the output side of the cooler.

Good to see another person from CO
but Id have to question the behind the radiator thing. cause if you were pushing the car real hard wouldn't the heat from the radiator render the IC almost useless? not to rag on your setup, we are a do it yourself, homedepot kinda crowd
. oh also wouldn't the fans infront of the radiator reduce airflow to the radiator itself? definetly check those in and out temperatures.

I get more car parts at Home Depot than I get at Pep-boys.
"You don't have any epoxy for a coffee mug? Guess I'll go across the street to Home Depot. No screws? Home Depot. Cone Filter adapter? Home Depot. 2" pipe with a small bung? Home Depot. Tube for Boost Gauge? Home Depot."
I really just should stop going to pep-boys.

Intercooler redoo
Boy, I hate being totally Inept but I guess it's one way to learn.
Temperature was about 10 degrees higher coming out of my interheater.
I have now moved it to the front and I am gett ing a 40 degree drop at idle. I also installed a water sprayer from some more junkyard parts, although there has been so much rain I haven't been able to use it.
The only problem I have now is the intercooler stick up about 2" above the hood. Driving around withoput the hood makes me feel too weird, so I am going to cut the hood and fashion a scoop. It probably will help cooling anyways.

Cut the hood
I cut the hood and took Pikes Peak this AM. The car outdrove the rubber I had on it.
Pulls nice all the way up.
I'll post some pics soon

I saw this car at a rallycross and it is pretty sweet. And with rallying, if you ever hit anything low on the bumper the IC is up high enough that it wouldn't be ruined. I just don't like the fact you have to cut out part of the hood, but it's a rally car.
Nice to meet you and i guess i will see you in Steamboat in Sept.
