195/60/14 on 14x5.5" wheel?

Post by greg donovan »

noticed the azenis is really cheap in this size. seems close to oem overally diameter. but are they to wide for rims this small on a car this big? the rim range is 5.5-7"

my stockers were 185/70 so you can use that to compare.

A turbo won't clear 15's.

That said, yes, the 195's will fit. It will be kinda buldgey, and kinda squirmy, but it'll fit.

Why would you want the Azenis though? With that kind of sidewall, you'd have so much squirm that you'd risk worse handling, and possibly rolling the tire off the rim thanks to the grip (the worse handling would be the tire rolling under and you'd be onto the sidewall a wee bit, and the excess girth would just allow so much flex).

Plus, the Azenis only last around 20k, so you'd have to spend $400 twice a year.

autox. they are sticky and cheap. more than likely i would just find another set of 15x6 OEM alloys.

and i live in fargo ND id be lucky if i put more than 10 k on them a year. it is a good idea to leave winter/allseasons on till at least may 1st here and back on in late sept. early oct.

I've had 195/60 r14s on stock 5" steelies. I think they were bfg phantoms. I thought they handled pretty well, but then i've never done autocross or anything. I live in the mountains and drive hard though. They had less body roll than any other size i've had on 14's. But they went out of round - i think maybe because they were kinda small and i drove em so hard. Or maybe just cause i got em from Discount Tire - those guys suck! I haven't had any tires go out of round since i switched to 195/70 r14. oh, my speedo was off by about 5 at 70, but my car did feel a bit zippyer due to the smaller diameter.

yeah, discount does suck though, they like to over torque things. I have a truck i took to discount for a few years, eventually the wheel studs started breaking off. I just trust the small local guy more, he doesn't sell crappy tires. Local guys are more likely to stand behind their work and do a good job the first time. Any place that sells sucky tires sucks. Plus, you always end up paying more at discount somehow.
