Subie Performance Engine?
Once my shop is done changing engines, the EJ22 with the chewed up crank will be mine. I've been toying with the idea of rebuilding the engine. Possibly putting in a crank with more stroke, and otherwise getting everything balanced. Anyone know if there's room to stroke an EJ22, and how much? Perhaps the 2.5 crank is a direct bolt-in? It's something to toy around with, otherwise I will part it out.

THe phase one DOHC crank is supposedly a direct drop in. It should net you around ~2.3-2.4L of displacement.

The phase 1 DOHC engines were in the 98RS, 96-99GT, 97-99Outbacks, and some 99 RS/Forresters. If the Forresters were sold in 98, they were most likely phase 1's as well.

My engine is NA, but I've got the original heads still on the engine, and have been considering a good port and polish. There is a stroker crank availible from MRT, so I'm considering that for replacing the old crank. The cost is a bit high though. I do need to get new lifters, as the old ones started tapping before I discovered the chewed crank.
It's interesting to note that I posted this message some time ago and didn't get any replies. I posted a similar message not too long ago and have gotten MANY replies. I guess people didn't like the title of the post?

for a turbo engine the phase 1 SOHC is a better choice. With a set of 2.5RS heads, crank and rods youll hit 2.41L of disc. and be good for 8100rpm with the STOCK CAMS. RPM is golden on turbo engines. If you have a turbo that can handel hi revs and stay on the map, use every RPM you can cuz... it may be the difference between winning and losing.
All kinds of cars but none of them run.
