removing yellow from headlights questions

Post by Gravija »

ive decided to clean out my headlights because they look covered in yellow gunk

how exactly do i remove the headlights? (or can i sand them and then clear coat while they still are on the car? [clear coating, i'd put newspaper or something around the rest of the hood])

i have 100, 300, 600 grit sandpaper, is this enough?
also, where can i find and what kind/brand of clear coat is ok to use on the headlights? ( http://kragen.com/PartDetails.asp?Sourc ... Code=3278D is that the right stuff for clear coat? )

and this should be done all while they are wet right?

thanks

I wouldn't use the 100 or 300. It's too rough. I wouldn't use anything under 400. Make sure it's wet/dry sandpaper. and yes.....do everything while wet. Which is why it's easier to remove them from the car.

There should be some nuts behind the headlight which you remove to get the headlight out.

if you want to leave them on the car, there's a way to do it without sanding them that works, but i'm not sure how long they'll stay that way, as i had my headlights off about 4 months after doing the procedure so i just sanded and buffed them
