who bikes?

I've seen the mention of bikes (the pedaling kind) several times. How many here bike regularly?

I do, I do. I built up a custom dealio over 2 years. When stuff broke on my schwinn, I would replace it with something sweet, usually Shimano Deore LX or better. But my bike doesn't compare to Phil's old one.

I'm a downhiller. Just sold my bike actually (to pay off the SS). I had an 03 Banshee Scream with an 04 Marzocchi Shiver. It was awesome.

Used to road bike and occasionally mountain bike, but sick of riding alone and putting up with assholes in cars. I have an old Giant Warp Mtn bike and a Specialized Allez road bike I use with one of those cycle-ops things to keep in shape.

I ride fairly regularly, but I've been working alot lately so it's tough to go out and ride as much as I'd like to. I have a reasonably well maintained GT (when they used to be synonomous with higher end bikes

) Ricochet. It's a hardtail, but I have a few buff upgrades: XTR drivetrain, Marzocchi Z3 front fork, nice hubs and rims, etc...
There are a lot of good local rides around me too, so I really should get off my ass and hit the trail. Mostly I do aggresive street or XC, but it gets lonely riding all by my self. Oh well. I'm not doing anything this evening, maybe I'll bring my bike up and get it ready...

Hardtails are truly underrated! Too bad we're not in the same area. I pretty much ride the same way - but I've ditched suspension altogether. Still, bashing around town on and off-road with someone would be great.

I have nothing with two wheels anywhere in my house...

I used to be inseparable from my bike when I was young, the whole "wish-it-was-a-car" thing. I actually still have a scooter I had back when I was 7 sitting in my grandparent's office. I would like to dig it out and kinda bring it back to life a bit, even though I'm waaaay too big to ride it. Then possibly get a mountain bike or something.

I'm a certified bike dork. No less than six bikes in the stable at any given time. I'm kinda funny in the biker world in that I don't specialize in one kind of cycling. I’ve done quite a bit of Road and MTB racing but also pull out the hucking/trials bike pretty often. Then there’s the Single Speed and the Fixie and the cruiser. I’ve just started working at a shop again for the first time in a while, I was paying retail prices for nearly a year

now I'm back to buying stuff at cost...or better

I used to downhill and cross country religously a few years back, but that all stopped once i got my legacy... i still would like to get back into biking but what little free time i have goes to the car

Had 2 specialized bikes... fsr and a stumpjumper

ive had seven bikes over the years. i used to ride every day. but after wrecking all of them beyond repair and my last accident almost being the end of me except for the fact that it was the one time i decided to wear a helmet. im pretty done with cycleing. motorcycles on the other hand.....

92 LE, are those front discs standard equipment or aftermarket?
I've been considering upgrading my brakes for a loooong time now, but it's alway's been put off for whatever reason.
What type, brand and how much if aftermarket. I currently use Shimano XTR group V-brakes, and for all intents and purposes they're fine, but last year I got into slightly more agressive XC and some sisy style downhill, and I began to notice a lot brake fade after extended heavy braking.
Are the disc's signifigantly better in this respect?

Discs are better in every situation except weight.

I had to rebuild my front wheel and at the same time I got a new fork so I decided to upgrade to disc. Hydraulic stoppers provide better stopping power than mechanical disc but the're a bit fussier and messier so I opted for mechanicals the stopping power is about the same as your higher end V-brake stuff.
