My summer project

Post by LegacyPunk »

Ok so I have a version 6/7 STI spoiler for a WRX, its wider than the ones for the 2.5rs so it lines up better length wise. My problem is that since it is for a WRX there is about a 1 inch gap from the middle of the spoiler to the trunk.

Image

Any suggestions how to fill this gap? could I just slap on some body putty underneath the spoiler and make it flat?

please refrain from anti-spoiler comments

That'll be pretty cool if you can get it to work well.

you sure the gap isn't supposed to be there? that's a difficult thing to do. you could heat the entire wing up and bolt it down in the middle. or fiberglassing the shape of your trunk to the bottom of the wing could work...

hey-
I attempted to put that exact same spoiler on my legacy....it doesn't work....the hole might look bad if you fill it, it's not made for our flat trunks....if you bolt it without filling the hole, it would most likely fall off.....what i did and it looks ALOT better is i took out the 3-5 bolts holding the two halves together and put the top half on my trunk....it fits perfectly and looks alot better, plus it's sturdy AND it DOESN'T BLOCK THE REAR VIEW...

Legacy Punk,
Let me know if you need a set of hands at some point in the project. I don't know squat about body work, but can do what I am told if hands are all that are required...

I agree with Jessica - fiberglassing it so it wouldn't look weird would be difficult and time consuming at best. I wonder if the top part alone isn't just the RS spoiler, though. Anyway, the lower profile will cut down on at least a little law enforcement attention.

Thought about the taking the top half off, but its too wide, it would connect on each side of the trunk and then the trunk wouldn't open. I think im just gonna play around with it untill I figure something out, I don't just want to slap it on. Im pretty good with sculpting things so...itll be something for me to do over my summer break. I was actually thinking about body puttying or fiberglassion the underside of the spoiler and just use longer screws to bolt in on. The spoiler didn't cost too much so if I F it up..no big loss.

What if you had a bracket coming out the sides of the trunk under where the wing pylons would go and have the brackets set into a notch on the underside so the edges of the pylons would be flush with the body rather than elevated by the bracket? I'm not sure if I'm explaining that well... Imagine the way a door hinge is set into a door frame.

SORRY

Post by PERFORMANCESUBE »

I'm sorry....I don't have a digital anymore and so I wouldn't be able to post pics. Any Subie lovers living in the denver-lakewood colorado area have probably seen my marroon legacy around.
the best I can explain her is the top half of an STI spoiler(looks like RS wing, a bit bigger), charcoal RS wheels, 5% tint all around, lowered, and my RS bumper which I respectively found in a dumpster!! hee hee.....

REALLY??? WOW, so does it look like a 2.5 GT wing (from like 2000 or so, the mid level wing)??
