WANT TO PORT/POLISH HEADS

Post by Legacytuner »

CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHAT TOLERENCES THEY HAVE USED FOR THIS AND WHAT KIND OF IMPROVEMENTS DID IT MAKE?

First of all I'll tell you to do a search before you get yelled at by one of the moderators. Second I'll remind you about the all caps typing. With that out of the way, the single cam heads we have pretty restrictive. I dont have any hard data but when I had my engine rebuilt I saw the guy put my heads on a flow bench and he said they flowed pretty well. He did some porting on one of set of the intake/exhaust ports and we did not see and difference. The other point that I have is that there aren't any cams available for our heads. I spoke with Cobb tuning about it and they recomended using the ej22t short block and throwing on some dohc wrx heads on it. Thats the only way to make our motor breathe better. I also dont think that when your dealing with forced induction that you really need that since the air is being pushed and does not rely on vacume.

If it can breath better, than it's easier for air to be pushed through the heads.

The DOHC wrx heads bolted to the EJ22T shortblock sounds interesting.

my point is that without the ability to replace the cams there is NO point in making the ports bigger as they will not flow more air due to the limiting vavle control.

i dont think so magicmike, i got my heads port and polished top and bottom and let me tell you WOW what power. i could hit top speed red line in fifth it helped out the hole motor made it smoother revving in the top of every gear and i could run whay more boost.

there is a down side look out for gas prices cuz i burn gas 10 times more with the heads ported, you can see the gauge go down.
