A/C hell

Post by entirelyturbo »

I officially take the cake for having the biggest, roundest cajones of anyone on this board :D

Haha, seriously though, it takes a man to put up with not having A/C in 100º FL weather for over a year.

About 8 months ago, I decided to follow Josh's instructions on an R134 conversion. I took the compressor out, replaced the drier, put esther oil in the proper places, and put R134 fittings on it. I took it to my Toyota dealer for a vacuum pull, and they said they don't do retrofits. I stormed out mad (clocked out first of course  ) and since it was around October, it wasn't that hot anymore and I didn't bother with it for a few months.

Well now it's burning up again, and I took it to a friend's shop to see what they could do with it. Of course the system hasn't been used in a year, so now the seals from the drier were spewing air out, the fittings weren't sealing right, and the compressor was only working intermittently.

So now I think I'm going to buy a JY compressor, have it professionally rebuilt regardless of condition, put all new H/L lines on it with R134 fittings already on it (ouch :x), new drier again , and whatever else.

Until then, I'm sweating my ass off excited to get home where I have A/C that works

michael,

See what these guys can do for you. http://autoaircompressors.com/ I believe they're associated with cvaxles.com.

"professionally" retrofitted doesn't always mean it will work any better.....just to throw that out. If you get all the parts that are good and working....and do the conversion per my directions......you should be good.

eh... mine are bigger..... I went without AC in Florida too.... Sure you can sweat to cool off... but in Florida, the air is already so full of moisture, there is no place for your sweat to evaporate to. Even driving down the road with the windows down doesn't make it much better.

I'm not from the south... and you are. That means you're already more accustomed to the higher temps.

The rad fans gave out in my old car during one of the hottest summers here, and as such i had to drive with the heaters on full blast to keep the engine cool... add to that the fact that the drivers window didn't work and it was only a 2 door car I probably got some big cajones as well 8)

you aren't the only one out there, but best of luck getting that a/c going again

They do appear to be associated with cvaxles.com, which is awesome because I can pick one up and save on shipping! That's even my area code! :D

This looks to be the right compressor: http://www.autoaircompressors.com/catal ... rtlink=429

I'll get a price quote and report back.
