WOOOOO HOOOOOO!!!!

Post by BAC5.2 »

Just drove my car for the first drive since I took it to the shop last thursday.

WOW!

The Exedy clutch is grippy as a bastard, and with the new flywheel, it takes a bit of practice to get everything smooth. It feels great though, and the car drives nice and smooth.

I also did the GRP. N mounts (engine and tranny) and I've gotta say, that is a mod to do! Less jerky when letting off the throttle while in gear, my shifter is tighter than most new cars out there, and gear grinding is a thing of the past. NVH increased a bit, at idle the car vibrates slightly, and there is a good bit of noise when revving and accelerating and such, but nothing unlivable. It's actually somewhat satisfying, knowing that it's all business under there.

The new IAC valve didn't fix anything, it still throws the 24 code and has a choppy idle. I don't know what I'm going to do now, I might go to the Suby dealership and see what they say, but I'd like to prevent that. It still idles wicked high (1200 to 1800 RPM), but throws the code still. My mechanic can't figure out what else it could be, but the possibility of a failing ECU is there. If my ECU is bad, then I don't know what exactly I'll do.

Total labor for clutch, flywheel, all mounts, and the IAC replacement was $600 even. 720 parts for clutch and flywheel, $200 for engine mounts and tranny mount, $400 for the new IAC valve. Grand total for this repair is just under 2k.

But aside from the IAC problem, the car drives super sweet. The Group N mounts should have come stock, and the Exedy clutch is super sweet. It's engagement is right by the floor, about 3/4 of the way through the pedal travel, which is right where I like it. The engagement is really definite and really nice. Still going to take some getting used to, to get everything down.

now get your front endlinks and group n top mounts and the front end will be all business and no play (the bad kind of play).

ouch about the idle trouble. hindsight is 20/20, but you might have saved money going to the dealer first before replacing uber expensive parts :(

don't worry about the money you have spent. you would have had to spend it eventually, anyways. wear items need to be replaced... you just got yours in a short time period. you'll forget about every extra dime you had to put in the car when you finally get to DRIVE it after the clutch is squared away and you learn how to drive a manual ;)

Matt - Definately. Probably Wednesday or something.

William - Suspension is in the future, I'm in debt now, so I'll see what I can do.

The valve needed to be replaced anyway. It's a lot better now with the new valve, but it's still really high idle and still throwing the code. At least the car doesn't shut off when I am driving though, so that's 2 steps in the right direction and worth $400 to avoid a potential accident when the car shuts off and I have no brakes.

Once the light get's taken care of, then I think I'll have a pretty healthy car for a while.
