Cross-drilled rotors
Hey everyone. Thnaks for the help with the tire size question. Now I'd like to know of a site/store that can sell me a pair/set of cross-drilled rotors for a 93 Legacy L (FWD). I have a standard suspension, 16" tires.

I wouldn't get cross drilled rotors. Most people haven't had very good experiences with them. If you want high performance rotors get gas slotted ones instead. Where as I've heard nothing but bad things about cross drilled rotors, I've heard nothing but good things about gas slotted rotors.
I hope to get some frozen slotted rotors the next time I need 'em, personally.

You may have a hard time finding any performance rotors for your stock front brakes. It may be a good idea to first upgrade to WRX front brakes, which should fit behind your 16" wheels. If you're still unhappy with braking performance, it should be easy to find performance rotors (like Matt says, slotted is better than drilled) for a WRX.

I have cross drilled/slotted rotors on the fronts. Used to have them on the rear, but upgraded to rear turbo brakes.
I have had nothing but excellence from the cross drilled rotors. No warpage, no uneven wear, no problems at all.
They were brembos (oem quality) that i got on ebay a few years back.

The conversion is easy, I'd check NASIOC for guys selling off their OEM brakes. Only get the fronts though, our rears are already better then the rex's rears already.

Most of the problems with cross drilled rotors are because of the owners.
If you drive them hard, and don't drive them correctly, then they will get all cracked and messed up.
How many Ferrari's do you hear about that have brake issues when driven hard? Not many, because most of the drivers that actually use the car for what it was designed for, know how to properly warm up and cool down their brakes.

Thanks for the link vrg3. quick question though: Why wouldn't I want to replace the rotors/calipers for the rear? Do the WRX calipers look the same as my 93 vintage (stock) calipers? (Do the WRX caliper's have Subaru stamped on the side?)

Turbo Legacies have 10.4" Vented rotors. WRX's have 10.4" solid rotors.
The only rear upgrade to consider is the "H6" rear rotor upgrade, but those are solid not vented.
I think the H6 rear rotors are 11.4" just like the WRX front brakes.

You'll gain pretty much nothing. The rotor is exactly the same. The caliper piston size is slightly larger 1.374" dia vs. the wrx 1.5"georgeperez38 wrote:Ok. Since I have the 93 L model (FWD) then upgrading the rear breaks to WRX would be good too?

If you hear of someone selling their OEM WRX breaks, let me know.
But you could simply find a first gen leg wagon if you wanted a larger piston diameter. If you went with the wrx rear brake setup, you'd need to swap the caliper brackets as well as the caliper & you'd need new pads as well.

I think I paid 200 for the calipers & pads. I bought my own rotors new. I probably wouldn't pay more then 200 for everything.....especially since everyone's selling them now.
