Grinding

Post by LaureltheQueen »

So my brakes are bad in front, but when i was driving today, with the radio off, i got a brake sound, sorta grindy, when i took a left corner, and about 40 feet later, it stopped, this was without any pressure to the brakes. then it happened again, but only from the drivers side front. any thoughts?

they're making noise! Which means something is touching something it shouldn't. There's nothing to do except take them apart and see if you can tell what's rubbing, and if you can't, lubricate it and put it all back together.

Sometimes this sort of thing happens if you get a pebble caught between the rotor and the dust shield.

If your brakes are bad, though, I have to ask -- why worry about this noise? You have to replace the brakes anyway, no?

If it goes too far she'll be changing the caliper, too.

I'm sorry, I thought the first 5 replies were hilarious. If it's any consolation laurel, my car is making some noises, I think it's brakes too, but bleh I dunno :(

My car is making weird noises too! When I accelerate, I get a whine coming from under the hood! It only seems to make noise when I accelerate briskly. Can anyone help me? What's wrong? Is my car going to explode!?

yes it is, the problem is you have a fan in your intake, it's nothing but an air restriction. You should just remove the fan and get some pipes fabricated to fit wher eit was.

Steve - I hear you can rectify that by opening the door on the highway. Should take care of the noise in no time. Don't worry, the 'thump' is normal.

Damn wind keeps the door shut, but any and all my custom cars will have suicide doors to remedy this (except the ones with aircraft canopies).

It's possible that one of the calipers isn't fully releasing after you remove brake pressure. Perhaps the pistons are worn and binding as a result? Low fluid level or contaminated fluid? Rotor surface uneven?
I just spent $300.00 replacing both front calipers, rotors and pads.
Don't wait too long to have it checked out.

thats what i meant. Thank you bob.

I know i have to replace my pads, but wasnt sure if i needed to get other parts and expect to have to get a rebuilt caliper, and allocate time to installing that as well. I checked what i could see of my rotors yesterday, and they appear to be in peachy keen condition. The fluid IS dark, and needs to get bled desperately, but I saw no point til I did the pads.

well this isn't a cv noise either (according to what they're supposed to sound like) It really does sound like brakes but this boot is fucked. Glad to see you got hat taken care of though :)
