Of course there are exceptions, but for the most part, I know most cars in the world, here in the US or overseas. But this one is something I have NEVER seen before, and I like it!
Too bad I don't have the cash, or I'd be dumb enough to buy it. Don't know how I'd get parts, but hey that's part of the fun!

It's a Mini Marcos. It's built on a Mini chassis with partial plywood construction by specialty maker Marcos, founded by Gem MARsh and Frank COStin for racing. They also built their own cars under the Marcos name until the late nineties, although I believe they sold the company long before. Marcos was bought from bankruptcy a few years back by, I think, a Dutch firm for racing operations only. Marcos had contested LeMans a few times prior to the bankruptcy.
EDIT: Just looked at the ad closer - this is the Midas built version. The production was taken over by this company from Marcos and continued the development until a fire destroyed the place in 1989. These things handled unbelievably. Gordon Murray (McLaren F1 designer and small car nut) owned a newer different body style version.

Midnight in a Perfect World on Amazon or order anywhere. The first book in a quartet chronicling the rise of a man from angry criminal to philanthropist. Midnight... is a distopic noirish novel featuring 'Duchess', a modified 1990 Subaru Legacy wagon.
I'm not that good - although I recognized it as a Mini Marcos, I had to look up the Midas part (A-Z of Sports Cars).
I made it my mission to try to be able to recognize any car I may see (and I see a lot of weird ones) and know a little bit about them. It was some form of rebellion against my dad as he knew American cars, so I went the other way. Later I got back to the Americans - even more so when I got back from Egypt.
Some of the cars I checked out to buy before getting my first car: '55 Chevy Bel Air 4-door, '67 and '73 Cadillac hearses, Saab Sonnet III, Volvo PV544 and 145 S, Borgward Isabella (how's that for obscure!), Lancia Scorpion, Daimler SP250. That's all I can remember now.

I remember seeing a RHD Taurus prototype in Detroit, the guy was laying way down in the seat so it looked like no one was driving.
