Bad day at work

Post by THAWA »

One of my co-workers was bringing a truck in, and hit mine while she was backing up. The truck was barely damaged, it had a couple of scratches on the bumper and some red. My car however is in worse condition, though not by much. The bumper has a big cut in it, theres scrapes around that area, the corner light is toast, the fender and hood are dented in the corner area with some paint missing, some of the grill clips are broken, and the two screws that adjust the headlight are mucked up. The mounting for the top screw is bent a lil bit, and the plastic clip for the side screw is half broken.

Was I mad when it happened, not really, was I nervous as shit to see the damaged? yes. Thankfully it's not that much. I'm going to call a couple of body shops to see what they'll charge for the hood and fender and have her pay for it. I told her not to worry about the bumper since I have one sitting here I was planning on replacing the old one with, considering is already in bad condition. I'm heading to the JY tomorrow to pick up a new corner light and some clips for the grill she said she'd reimburse me for that so it's all pretty much taken care of. I might take some pics of it but who knows. All in all, not a pleasing day at work.

Wow, that sucks. You're a lot nicer and understanding then I think I would be. I'd be livid if someone backed into my car. She must be really cute.

Man, that SUCKS to hear! Glad it's not that bad though.

Sounds like my buddy. Just got his car out of the body shop for a front end collision which FUBAR the bumper and fender and hood and headlight and turn signals. Less than 1 month later, a woman rear ended us on the way to the beach. It was a bitch, she was going like 35mph. Only a little damage to our car though.

Yeah she's really not all that good looking, but she's a chick that works on cars so...

All the guys at work we're telling me the same thing, about me being easy-going about it, they were like, "Don't flash on her". There was no real reason to get mad, she said she didnt see my car there, and I semi-believe her, she should've been paying attention, but getting angry now wont fix the damages. She was already scared shitless so she didn't need me getting crazy on her. Now if she decided she wasn't going to pay for anything, or she was going to say it wasn't her fault, THEN I would've went bad on her. As long as everyone (including her) knows it's her fault I'm not mad.

At anyrate, pics are up in the folder: http://thawa.net/images/legacy/sooby/damage

I'm too lazy to delete the doubles. :)

That sucks, dude.

Staying cool was a good move. Whenever there's any kind of vehicle-vehicle collision that's usually the best thing to do, as long as you ensure the responsible party (or his/her insurance company) is going to take care of things.

The damage doesn't seem too bad, actually... Before I saw the pics I was gonna say it's a good opportunity to gain the ability to see at night by swapping to the 92-94 front end ;). But this really isn't too bad at all.

It's easy to say that doesn't look bad on someone else's car, but if that had happened after I got a big paint job, I don't think the guilty would have survived to learn their lesson.

Oh, and pre-facelift is better!

I didn't mean to downplay how important the car is or anything like that; I guess I was just trying to reassure THAWA that he didn't need to be worried or mad. It can be fixed to be as good as new, and the person who did it will absorb all the costs of making that happen (which she wouldn't be able to do had she not survived).

I don't think he was suggesting that :) I think he was thinking along the lines of, the grass is always greener on the other side, or something.

Was going to post a thread as well about a bad day at work, but then I saw yours. I'm not alone!
I feel for you though because yours was with YOUR own car.
I fried a Sartorius SC2 microbalance within ten minutes of getting in the door today. I was so devastated I just went back home. A broken scale may not seem like much, but I stopped to look at new Subarus today at the dealer (before work) that sold for less. Damn, I can't weigh anything, I need a drink and the hope that my coworkers will be as understanding tomorrow as you were, Thawa, with the girl in the truck.

Stinks, good to hear you'll pretty much get it taken care of.

Not a matter of if :) just a matter of when, I feel sketchy driving around with no corner light though.
