HI ALL,
just coming home in my legacy all runing fine for about two miles then all of a sudden car stuttered heard the dump valve let out some air then bit of a hill so put foot down just a little and heard a tiny whistle but no power then whistle turned to a grinding noise then lots of smoke.now car grinds as soon as you touch the throttle but sound s ok on idle just smokes a lot.
so firstly would i be right in saying the turbo has given up and died and also i have a td04 impreza turbo will this fit straight into the legacy.
need car back on the road in next two days.

Very well could be the turbo. Sounds like the bearings pretty much friedn themselves. Definitely don't drive the car, as teh compressor wheel is likely grinding against the housing and sending bits of metal into the intake.

The td04 will not directly bolt in w/o modification as the compressor inlet and outlet are at different angles. It can be made to work though, try a search.
