Which pump is faulty? Fuel cut when cornering?

Heads, valves, pistons, rods, crankshaft, etc...

Which pump is faulty? Fuel cut when cornering?

Post by douglas vincent »

The problem is that when I corner hard with 1/2 tank or less, the fuel cuts out and then kicks back in when I straigten out. Rather embarrassing when running around with other "sporty" cars.

I searched and found the problem mentioned but not the answer. Which fuel pump is bad? Do I fix it or replace it?

Thanks,
Douglas

Well, sounds like the pump in the gastank. If you´re lucky then it´s only earthfailure, if you´re unlucky... replace. :)

It'd probably be the jet assist pump.

On the AWD cars, there's a fuel separater thing....which I'm not sure what it is, or if it's related to the two pumps or not. I'll have to see once i tear into the wagon.

A competition GC8 has the same problem here. They have tried all kinds of things to try and fix this problem. It has nothing to do with the fuel pump, you are getting fuel starvation when the gas leaves the area of the pump (some subaru tanks develop a "sloshing" problem). About the only way to completely alleviate this problem is to get the STi fuel pump unit which has a bag that holds enough gas to prevent starvation. But it is $$$.

Right now the GC8 just has to run a full tank.

incidently the jet pump is non electronic and is infalable, if uses atmospheric pressure to balance the tank sides.

yep, most subies (anything non sti) are prone to that issue anything below a 1/4 tank will allow fuel starvation to occur in long sweeping corners

just run more gas when at the track :)
