Am I being Had(sube related)

Post by snowjob »

So I'm still trying to sell my ej22t, and I get this email from a guy who wants to buy it, however, after gathering that he wants it, this is the email I get back. Please read it and tell me what you think.

Frazer,
thanks for the mail.payment will be made out to you by a
certifeid cashiers check through my client.my client will be sending
you the check of $4,000 of which he was owing me from the last
transaction we did.so you will be getting the check of $4,000 AND YOU WILL SEND THE balance to my shippers who will be coming for the pickup.so i will like you to give me the (NAME, PHONE AND ADDRESS)you want on the cheque so that payment will be made out to you assoon as possible.awaiting your favourable reply.
thanks,
Krung.

So what do you guys think, this sounds kinda fishy right. anyone heard of this before, This is the second type of offer i've had for this engine of this kind. I just don't want to be in any kind of smuggled money scheme or something, or am I being a dumb ass.
Your imput is appreciated.
Thanks.

I don't understand what Krung is trying to say... it'd help if he tried harder to write properly.

Is he asking you to accept payment in the form of a cashier's check from a third party (his "client"), made out to an amount greater than your agreed price? And then asking you to use the balance to make payment directly to a fourth party (his "shippers")?

That's a little weird...

If you're worried about losing the money, you should make it clear that when you receive the payment check you are going to deposit it and wait for your bank to tell you that the deposit has cleared and that the funds cannot be taken from your account, and only once that has happened will the engine be his.

It does sound like he is saying you'll get a check made out to you, as opposed to a third-party check. So, you can feel fairly confident in depositing it. And if you deposit it and it clears (I believe two weeks is the maximum amount of time you would have to wait for that), then you're set.

It's perfectly reasonable of you to refuse to be his broker in dealing with paying the shippers. If I were in your position I certainly would; you don't want to be involved if there are any disagreements.

How much is he supposed to be paying for the motor? And how are you supposed to be getting it to him?

Yes kinda fishy indeed. Why doesnt the buyer just take the money from his client, deposit that and write the shippers/you a check? Personally, I wouldnt follow through with something like that

Its a scam please don't do it. I heard about it a year ago on one of those talk radio call in shows and they said if you do you'll be throwing your money away.

It is a scam, plain and simple. The cashiers check is bogus.

What they do is get the product AND the cash.

Since they are picking it up RIGHT NOW, you dont have time to actually cash the cashiers check and find out if it is good.

If you really wanted to have fun, call the cops and arrange a sting.

IT IS A SCAM!

A friend of mine was trying to sell a car, and almost the exact same thing happened. Bogus cashier's check, poor english in all of the transactions, etc. Remember, everything you sell is on your terms. That's what keeps us sellers safe. Ditch that guy and be done with it.

Yep... scam. The same thing that was being done on eBay not long ago. The check will initially clear, then bounce and they keep the money you sent.

Definitely scam - take it from a guy who's been extorted and scammed in three countries.

Laurel, my God, you work with dog sellers? I have been looking for an auxillery weiner dog for my shop. Can you ask her if she has any that get 10 kibbles to the bits? Thanks!

PS

I was driving down I-5 south of Olympia on Wendsday and saw a women driving a turbo wagon. I checked her out pretty good so I could remember her and the car and then logged on and then check your pics. As you probably figured, it was not you. But it would have been a nice "small world" if it had been.

I was in a semi jacked up E-350 van. You would have left the road on the creepyness factor before an exit if I started making commotion I suspect. I will have to figure out the sign language for "legacy bbs" sometime. Or morse code on the horn!
Good night all.

Its a known scam. I would stay away and also report it. There's somewhere on the web you can go to report his email address and the information.

Also, i wouldn't trust anybody by the name Krung.

I haven't, but I have had several friends do it when I was in college. Lots of guys, several cars in a caravan, late at night coming back from a school hockey game. It sure seemed to happen a lot on those nights. The mistake you make is when the jeep in front of you has a guy in the back making gestures so you put on your brights to nag him and he drops his pants. Big mistake.
