When will it end???

things that have gone wrong:
transmission
knocksensor
bov
coolant leak 1
coolant leak 2
upper radiator piece breaks/radiator breaks
total : about $5550
and all that was last month! guess my car decided she needed new parts.

Check engine light is still on, still code 22, engine seems perfectly fine. and its going to be yet another few weeks of my poor car stuck in the garage, untill I can get a new radiator.

oh well, at least this narrows down anything else that could go wrong .

Isn't it hard to not want to just give up on that if it's costing that much? I wouldn't want to spend that much on fixing a car up.

Same situation here. I've spent $4k in repairs on top of the $3400 I paid for the car, and it STILL doesn't idle . Not to mention my 15mpg record, which just adds to my costs.

It's REALLY hard to not give up on it. I look at it as me being far to young to be in debt on a new car, so I keep this one around.

True, I can see not wanting to be in debt for a new car. My thing is that I'd rather spend money on other things and save some for rainy days. My opinion is just an opinion but I would like to not have to worry about my car so much. Right now, I'm thinking on dumping the turbo I bought because it just takes too much TLC and I'm not sure I want to spend my time and money fixing it up to par. I was hoping to at least be able to spend money mostly on mods and not on digging the car out from under the previous owners poor maintenance habits. That's my perspective I guess.

I hear ya, though I think my total in repairs has just barely passed my total for the car price, last month. You all should think of it as I do, now I dont have to worry about tranny failing, or the hg's blwoing, or waterpump going kaput, or timing belt snapping, etc

I wonder sometimes if I'm unhealthily obsessed with my car. I've calculated over $5k of costs since I've owned it (4 years next month), and I still absolutely love it and plan on NEVER getting rid of it. Granted, the car has almost zero problems right now, but still. $5,000???

I get attached to stuff though. I have too many memories in my Legacy. I went through high school in it, I've learned how to work on cars with it, I've pushed it to its limits and driven it like a grandma, I've gotten angry at it for dumb stuff, I've sworn I'd never get rid of it. I've made out in that car (never gotten laid in it though ), I've had deep conversations with friends about the meaning of life in that car, I've just hopped in it and gone on a 40-mile jaunt across town for no good reason. My Legacy is just a part of who I am.

I'd like to keep the car but it has a bad fuel guage, axle, speedometer, AC, power steering pump, rust and other stuff as well. I'm going to take a hit selling it but it's better than continuously dumping money into it. I'm just not willing to screw with it. I don't work in a garage nor do I have access to one. All cars require repairs but there's a threshold of absurdity for me. I can't see spending gobs of money on a car that's unpredictable at best. I guess I just don't feel the love.

yeah it usually takes a while to create a bond with a car. And it's especially hard to create that bond if you don't like aspects of it. I can't say I blame you, but i'm sure if you had that car for about a year, and then these problems started hapeneing I'll bet you wouldnt sell it (not immediately anyway). But it's okay, someone will get it for a deal, and you will eventually find a great one

I think you summed it up perfectly, Hardy. I'll keep looking and sooner or later I'll get one I like. I'd rather pay more at the outset than have to deal with all these issues.

I've been lucky where most of the money I've spent has been completely volutary (except for the bodywork, which without it the car would be going to the scrap heap in another year or so and the transmission I beat the living hell out of). When I consider the costs of a new car with increased insurance a certain amount of money I know is going to have to come out of my ass every month (where now I can probably drive a problem for a few months if I don't have the cash right away) or else my credit goes to shit and the nice men come in the middle of the night to remove my transport on me. Factor depreciation, extra worry, repairs it'll still need, and the guilt that will make me spend a lot more on frequent cleanings and it just gets to be too much for me. Still, I hated my 260Z because that car was nothing but problems so in the end, I guess it depends on how the car treats you.

My plan is to keep my car forever and just wait till I have about $28,000 to spend then its off to the nearest subaru dealer to get a new 2.5 Turbo Legacy, sign em a check and thats that.

The only thing that really tried my patience was just when I got new brakes suspension and tires I was so excited to see how the car would handle now and on my way home the tranny goes.

I have to keep this car alive cause after school I have to sart paying back around $60,000 of loans

I actually might go completly back to stock for a while for the sake of reliability, except my exhaust, and suspension goodies.
