Does the ABS system store codes?

My ABS light illuminated. Im curious why. It doesnt stay on after a restart, but at some random time later it will turn on again. Before that time the ABS is functioning normally.

Yeah the ABS stores codes. I "think" there is a way to self-diagnose it with connectors. If you got FSM's, it says how to diagnose it in there. Check in the brakes section and or electrical section.

I think you have to use the Select Monitor to diagnose ABS stuff...

You can diagnose ABS codes yourself. The ABS brain is under the front right seat. You need to drive the car greater then 30km/hr for more then a minute. Then stop. If the light comes on.......look at the LED on the ABS brain and count the blinks......match the codes to the table in the brakes section 4-4.

To add a little more info:

You don't need to remove or disassemble anything to look at the LED.

The ABS computer is mounted under the front right seat towards the right of the car. The LED is on the left face of the computer. If you reach down under there and feel for it, you'll find a small flap in the carpet that can be folded out of the way to expose the LED. It's rather dim, so if you have dark carpet you may want to let the light reflect off a white index card or something.

The ABS computer doesn't store codes long-term; they're cleared every time the power is reset. If you get a freak ABS code while driving and you want to reset it, you can very quickly turn the ignition switch to ACC and then back to ON. If you do it right, the engine will remain running but the ABS light will go out.

And I was wrong about the Select Monitor; it doesn't interface to the ABS system at all.
