Cranks but wont start. Coilpack?
My suspision is the coil pack. I just need this confirmed before I try and find a Diamond coil pack to replace it.
The engine cranks and cranks, but never stars. Every now and then for the last few weeks I would get a little "sputter" like the car died but then kept running. Or sometimes I would start it up, and then it would run for a second or so and then shut off. I could always get it to start again though.
Coilpack? Or something else...? If it is the coilpack, maybe somone could help me find a Diamond to replace it.
Thanks!

Can you check whether or not it's sparking?
One at a time, remove each plug wire and put an old spark plug in it, lying on some metal of the engine block or intake manifold (someplace a spark won't cause problems). As you crank it, you should see sparks across the plug gap.
Does your car never start? Or does it just sometimes go into this state where it won't start?
Do you know when your fuel filter was last changed?

Sounds more like a fueling problem to me. Maybe the fuel pump? Or maybe the fuel filter is really old and clogged up?

You should check the coil pack

also, try what vrg3 mentioned.
if you have spark, and the tests from the fsm are ok, it's probably not the coil pack.

This is the first time this has happened. The car has always started no problem. I dont know for sure when the fuel filter was last replaced, but I do know that the previous owner took really good care of the car, doing all scheduled maintanence. So I assume the fuel filter has been replaced at some point. I dont think it's the fuel filter though, given that the car has always started up fine.vrg3 wrote: Does your car never start? Soo... what were the results of the test for sparking?
Also, if a friend cranks and you listen through a stethoscope or through the handle of a long screwdriver, can you hear the injectors clicking open and shut?
And when you first turn the ignition on, can you hear the fuel pump prime at all?

Hey guys. Since I couldnt find a working voltometer, I decided to go out on a limb and just buy a new coilpack. So, now I have a brand spankin' new Diamond coil pack (got it for $70 with friend's discount).
Well, turns out it wasn't the problem. Car still wont start. Cranks, but doesnt start.
On goes the investigation...
Ignitor? Fuel pump? Is there a fuel pump relay (like my honda has) that can go bad?
DAMMIT!!!

I'd probably check for spark at the plugs (spark it off the block or something if you have to), then if that showed spark is present I'd start troubleshooting the fuel system. It still sounds like a fueling problem to me.

I guess it was the coilpack. I'm not sure why it didn't start after I replaced it though. I went through and made sure all my connections in the engine bay were solid, made sure all the fuses were solid...kind of just checked everything over. Then I did a spark test, and not only did it spark but she started right up on 3 cylinders. Oh well, I'm happy.

I know you heard the pump prime in one of your posts, but have you checked this? I was having a similar problem, although I don't think I heard the pump prime when it wasn't running. It would cut out while driving, though. It wouldnt hurt to look at those connectors, they are easy to get to.
When mine died it was a matter of someone bouncing on the back seat to get it running again, it was very touchy.
