I have a 93 touring wagon that came with the Subaru alarm setup. I unhooked my battery to reset my ECU after installing a new downpipe and now the park lights and dash lights flash. I have been told by one Subaru dealership thatI can pay 40 bucks for them to reprogram the alarm. Another dealership said this early alarm is a PITA and they didn't know how to do anything with it.
Does anyone have any experience with this and know how to reprogram the alarm? I have the remote if this helps. I don't actually arm/disarm it but the flashing lights has to stop.

I haven't ever seen an OEM alarm system on an early Subaru, but the behavior sounds similar to that of a later system. On those, there's a button either on the alarm control unit or mounted near it. You need to press it while pressing the remote control or something similar to that. It is easy once you locate the unit, which is usually somewhere just under the steering column.
Did the dealer that installed the alarm not put a sticker under the hood explaining how to reprogram it?

Thanks vrg3. btw it was good to meet you at the Cobb meet. (I have the white wagon with white wheels)
I suppose the alarm isn't factory installed, but it does say Subaru on it, so was probably dealer installed.
I looked for a button to push to no avail, but I was able to pull a link out of the piece that clicking andwas making the lights flash and stopped them from flashing. I still have blinkers lights etc. When I have more time I will have to pull it out and look for a button. There are lots of connectors under the dash that are disconnected that I think are alarm related. I think they may be features such as starter disable etc. from what I can gather at Subaru.

So no label and no button? That's weird.
The alarm was dealer-installed, right? So it should be pretty clear what parts of the wiring are stock and what parts were added when the alarm was installed... You could try tracing all the wires from the unit; the button may be hidden somewhere.
