NGK wires and Iridium spark plugs

Post by LegacyPunk »

I was just wondering if this would be a worthwhile upgrade. or if I should take a different route, say getting a new coil pack etc.

Let me rephrase, what would be any good simple upgrades to the ignition system?

I havn't really looked into the ignition system. those would be just the normal copper core plugs right?

The general consensus seems to be that a Diamond coil pack, Magnecor plug wires, NGK V-power copper spark plugs, and an MSD DIS-2 sum up to just about the best ignition system you can have on our cars within reason.

What exactly do these things do and what kind of performance gains can be produced by these. It's the only item I don't have from the list above.

I have the NGK wires and Iridium spark plugs.
I like them alot, no bad side effects to date.

LegacyPunk555 do you ever post on wrxclub in the mountain states forum? Lots of good people and help there also.
Also do you ever run your car at bandimere? I'm thinking of going on wednesday for the test & tune. It would be great to see another legacy ss there.

they fouled at around 5-7 (well close to, I'm pretty anal, I change things before they are totally gone) no problems with ngk vpower.

So...what exactly is a Diamond coil pack, and why is it different? And where would be a good website to get the items that vrg3 listed?

You can do a search to see if you can find more info, but basically the Diamond pack has a slightly better turns ratio than the Hitachi one, so it results in a higher spark voltage.

For the Diamond coil pack and the DIS-2, I'd buy used... watch eBay or something.

Magnecor wires are pretty reasonably priced at http://www.cyberauto.com/.

NGK V-power spark plugs are cheap at any auto parts store affiliated with Parts America: http://www.partsamerica.com/HelpCenterPartners.asp
