To Blizzak or not to Blizzak

Post by haru182 »

ok so here goes...

I am currently sporting a set of "dean-quasar" brand tires. ( I promise they came on the car when I purchased it a year ago)

The problem is, is that I live in Marquette MI, and we get a hell of alot of snow so I think that I need to get the Blizzak's. If anyone has used them especially those of you in heavy snow and mountain areas please give me your input on these tires.

This poses another problem however. I now need to find a new set of wheels and tires although I know I am going to stick with bridgestone RE92's or possibly Torenzo's. I now need to find a new set of wheels and I am looking to outfit the subbie with the cheapest possible wheels. That includes 14" OEM steely's so if any of you have a set of wheels you are willing to let go of for cheap let me know, or if you know of a reasonable set of alloy's. I am also willing to put any newer subbie wheels on that would fit perfectly providing I buy the right tire size. Any thing lying around that can help me out let me know.

Oh ... I am looking to spend less then 100 for the wheels alone although am willing to consider anything

Too bad I'm not still in Washington. I have a set of four 15" stealies that I left up there in the garage. I bet my housemates don't even know that they are still there. haha

aren't blizzaks more of an Ice tire than snow?

I think nokian hakkas would be a better snow tire for your area....

Or you can do like I'm going to and get the most aggressive looking highest treadware, cheapest brandless tire I can find before snow falls...

I run Blizzak LM-22s on the STi in the winter, and they're grippy as hell. . .. ice or snow.

I'd recommend them. :)

Blizzak's are hard-pack snow and ice, aren't they?

I want a set for the winter, but I need a set of rims to put them on. I plan on getting rid of the RE-92's in the spring though, so I might just get them for this winter.

Where are you finding them online?

How much for the tires Jason? What size are they? How do they like the snow and ice?

School in West Virginia, Super steep hills covered in snow. Am I going to have any problems?

I'd like to see 300 for these tires, but open for negotiation. size is perfect for OEM 15s. As for snow and ice, read above link.

No. These 14" alums look like this:

As for round, yes they are. One wheel is curbed some, but otherwise completely functional. Grant they are 14 years old, so they don't have the best finish on them.
