I've just finished my engine rebuild, and reading thru the subaru shop manual i stumble across different torque numbers for my rocker arm assy bolts.
I read 9 ft-lbs in the manual and i used something like 26 ft-lbs by mistake.
Now the engine is ready to install and i fear some kind of failure in my heads. Am i a bit paranoid or could this lead in a warped head or something. I can't sleep anymore
while it may may a difference, I would by much more worried it you did it the other way around!
I once installed my water pump on my old 76 Econoline van. Took something like 4 hours cause I had a few problem bolts. Finaly got the thing done. filled everyting up and stepped into the van to start it up.
So as I crank the engine over and start it, I notice BOTH water pump gaskets sitting on the DASH. I had put gasket sealer on everything but FORGOT the DAMN Gaskets!!!!!
Five years later still no problems.
See, yoiu have just a little to worry about! Good Luck!

9 sounds more right as I remember they came off real easy. You could always retorque them easily, but I don't think you should have a problem with warping, especially if you torqued them in the right order.

As long as the engine isn't in the car yet, it should be extremely easy to just take the valve covers off and retorque them... Even if it was in the car, it still wouldn't be too hard.

I've always torqued things to the factory recomended number. I havnt had a problem with getting done and realizing i did it wrong. When that day comes (and it WILL come) I'll proly redo it. Think of it as getting to know your car that much better...
