changing frt discs
Does anyone know the size of the bolts to use to press off the discs? I want to pick some up before starting. Also, the Chilton's manual says to remove the castle nut & some conical springs. Is this correct? I've never noticed any springs on the wheel studs & it looks like the hole in the center of the disc lets it slide off independently of the castle nut. TIA

Will the disc pop off easily, or will need it need persuasion (hammer or press off w/ bolts)?

You probably won't need to force the disc off, though. Like subyluvr2212 says, usually after you remove the wheel and the caliper, the rotor almost falls off on its own.
If you do need to persuade it because the brakes haven't been serviced in a long time, the bolts are the way to go; the hammer shouldn't be necessary. Thread two M8x1.25mm bolts into the rotor (be very careful to do it slowly and evenly!) and it'll just pop loose at some point.

also so you're not pulling all day, when they say remove the caliper, they mean the whole thing, caliper, pads, clips, shims, and brackets. Sounds like a lot but it's only 3 bolts

I know it's easy to get apart, but this is the 1st time I've had to change the rotors & I don't want to get stuck with the car in pieces & no way to get any parts/supplies I might need. Not looking forward to taking the caliper bracket off, hopefully the bolts will budge.

I know what you mean. We snapped a bracket bolt on my friends 99 Impreza a couple of weeks ago. Yet my 91 SS brackets came off with no problem. Yeah, I second the recommendation of PB Blaster.
I recommend perseverance too...
I changed the rotors on my friend's 96 Outback, and the caliper bracket bolts seemed like they were welded on. We literally had to stick a box wrench on them and hammer on the wrench for like 10 or 15 minutes before the bolt would start to move. He kept wanting to give up but I kept on hammering, and it worked.
